Phn 100% Gone For Months... Can The Pain Come Back???

My mother was hit with a horrifying case of shingles on her face from Sep 2017 and suffered until March 2018. The pain has been gradually healing and then since late March, she has been pain free (praise God). She is intensely worried about PHN pain returning.  Does PHN pain come back? Do any of you know any cases where PHN pain returns after months of being pain free 100%?

There seem to be a lot of mixed opinions here. I want to make it clear that my mother suffered from shingles only ONCE on Sep 2017. The virus has not reactivated since then, and we have only been dealing with PHN pain for 7-8 months. Not reactivated shingles pain. Also, I do know that there is a difference between a flare-up/exacerbation pain rather than PHN coming back after going away. You have to understand that my mother never suffered skin sensitivity or even slight itching once the PHN pain left. She has done heavy lifting, vacuuming, exercise at the gym, etc since the pain left. Also, she gets a good nights sleep every night without dealing with any annoyances. Mind you, she had shingles on her face- one of the most sensitive parts of the body with a lot of nerve endings.

Before the PHN pain left, she did not suffer intensely. The PHN died down to a point where there were two small spots that were bothering her a bit (a spot above her right eyebrow and a spot on her right temple). Throbbing and some tightening, but no allodynia. In the beginning of her PHN battle, she did suffer greatly with burning pains that left her thrashing around on the floor screaming. However, she recovered remarkably fast for being hit so hard.

I am assuming for a patient with this history, that even if the PHN does come back, it is likely that it will leave again promptly. For good. I am choosing to make positive confessions regarding this, as I believe that that is half of the battle.

I have it PHN on the chest and back.since last 15 months and cannot wear a shirt due to burning sensation. I have been taking Tegrital since a few months . I believe it has reduced the pain by 20%. Does anyone have experience of long term effects of Tegrital?
