I had shingles in my scalp and face and have had the dreaded PHN since October . Since then I have taken Neurontin and elavil which don’t help a lot, at night I wear a lidocaine patch and it does give me relief but you can only wear for 12 hours at a time.

Last week I started acupuncture and I am starting to feel a little relief. Hang in there ‘

      Marci,

      A chiropractor manipulates the spine.

Shingles is caused by the varicella virus, a DNA Herpes virus reinfecting the sensory nerve when your immunity is waning. A chiropractor manipulating your spine is not going to decrease the pain.

      Marci,

I am so sorry. That reply was meant for Marcia. Please forgive me. You are already educated about Shingles.

I certainly didn't mean to insult you.

Often, certain medications interfering with the perception of pain do a better job of pain relief, such as Elavil, Lidocaine, Gabapentin, Lyrica, Venlafaxine, and Cymbalta. Cold compresses or ice can help, too.

I believe while healing from the attack of the shingles virus, everything you do to your body needs to be gentle and relaxing. ANYTHING that causes stress or trauma to your body is a trigger for the virus. Acupuncture is a great choice.  Gentle yoga, essential oils (aroma touch therapy)  and gentle massage  have worked wonders for me.
