PHN-life and death

Recently read that PHN is the leading cause for suicide among seniors. Having suffered with PHN since 2012 and being over 60 myself I can understand how that can be. Since the shingles virus has been around for decades my question is how was this horrendous affliction dealt with 75/100yrs ago? No cure and no relief. With even less help from professionals than exists today. How many of us sufferers are out there in the world today? I feel alone and am very grateful for discovering this forum. It helps fend off the isolation. My apologies for whining but am saddened that there are so many more of us who suffer with this horrible nerve damage. Hang in there. We must overcome.

Hello I am so sorry you have been dealing with this since 2012. My heart goes out to you. I am 57 and started this on  May 4th and can’t imagine having it for this long. I had shingles without the rash. The nerve pain is on the upper right side of my back. It hurts to have clothes rub against my pain. I have tried so many different patches, rubs, Lyrica  and a couple others but nothing seems to work. I feel for you and so many others on here. I just don’t know what the magic answer is but there doesn’t seem to be one from what I’m reading. I use cold compresses quite a bit too to get telief.  I also wonder what they used and did to get relief 75/100 years ago. Please take care and I pray your pain goes away for good very soon and for everyone else.  Warms wishes, Lorray
