Photometric Glucometers Vs Electrochemical Glucometer

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am a type 2 diabetic. Hence, I am a dire need of a glucometer that is accurate and can track my blood glucose level. I am not a technical expert but in my online research, I found there are two types of glucometers available in the market. Photometric glucometers and electrochemical glucometers. Can someone please guide me which one should I buy for home use?

Thanks

I use a Contour EZ Next, for what it's worth.  These are all small, inexpensive devices.  None of them guarantees total accuracy, but my impression of using this one is that it's well within the expected degree of accuracy, about 5% or less.

My A1C came out a little lower, when tested at the doctor's office, so maybe my meter reads a few points high, hard to say.  Unless you specifically hear something bad about one, they're probably all about the same.
