I HAD CATARACT SURGERY 3 AND 2 MONTHS AGO ON BOTH EYES I AM HAVING FOLLOWING PROBLEMS
- TOTAL DISCOMFORT DUE TO LIGHTS. MY EYES START CLOSING WITH LIGHTS, SUNLIGHT AS WELL AS STRONG INTERNAL LIGHTS
- EYES ARE STRAINED ALWAYS. ALSO BURNING SENSATION IN EYES. EYE DROPS GIVEN BY DOCTOR DO NOT HELP AT ALL
- I FEEL TOTAL DISCOMFORT WHEN I MOVE HEAD SIDEWAYS. THIS MAKES DRIVING IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 40 YEARS AND NOW I AM TOTALLY HANDICAPPED.
- I CONTINUOUSLY FEEL LIKE CLOSING EYES
WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE AND SUGGESTED REMEDY

Sri:
It takes time to get accustomed to the brightness.
Please use the moisture drops if you can. It will take a few months then you wont notice it.
In the meanwhile use dark glasses to drive.

I think most people take awhile to get accustomed to bright light after cataract surgery. My cataracts caused me to see everything through a brownish tint. Very noticeable after first eye surgery and could compare vision between eyes. I wore sunglasses in my house as well as outside. Took months. But some over the counter lubricating drips (personally I like Systane Ultra). Give it time and your eyes will adjust. Meantime sunglasses will help.

Hi Shri:)
I had surgery 8 and 4 months ago, using 2 different docs with 2 different types of IOL. Both docs gave out a pair of large dark polaroid type sunglasses for immediately after surgery. I still use them for driving in strong sunlight. And I use an anti-glare visor that extends from my car's regular visor. I also still use sunglasses with light turquoise lenses at night for LED headlight glare. The severity of sensitivity has been diminishing over time. I can go outside in indirect sunlight with no problem now.
I use Soothe Preservative Free Eye Lubricant drops a few times a day. Sometimes I use Systane Preservative Free if my eyes seem especially dry or irritated, but I find this a bit too thick, takes a while to regain clear sight after putting them in.
It's possible you are allergic to something in the eye drops from your doc. I found one of the prescription post-op drops to sting extremely. Some people are more sensitive. I couldn't use normal contact lens solution in the past because I'm allergic to the mercury contained in thimerosal, a preservative which was later banned or discontinued for use in those solutions. So now I always use the Preservative Free versions of the artificial tears - why not? Worth a try.:)

not sure if you still have this problem, but while i didnt experience too much trouble with light sensitivity, i did a little at first. i wear sunglasses all the time though even before cataracts even on rainey days. we still have to continue to protect our eyes, so it is a good practice. i have so,e burning sensation mostly in one eye. i do use systane, and it can help a little. however, i will sometimes make myself yawn which helps to make my eyes watery. nothing like the natural moisture. after i yawn i will close my eyes for about 20 seconds and repeat a couple of times. it helps me, though not all the time. i think the last two will just take time and practice. i try to make a habit of putting myself in different environments and light situations. i walk every night and look at the moon and artificial light around my neighborhood. when driving, i am always testing my vision spanning 180 degrees. i think it has helped me adjust. hopefully i will contimue to improve as i a, only a couole of momths from my surgery.
