physical symptoms of depression

I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I've had physical symptoms for over a year now. The major ones that effect me are pain in my chest and digestive problems mainly what I eat not staying in my body long enough. When I sleep it doesn't effect me at all. I don't wake up with any pain in the middle of the night or any pain in the morning but it can creep back in as the day goes on.

I initially thought that my wedding day in August last year was causing my problems but 6 months on I still suffer with the physical problems.

I have been on antidepressants from June to around November and was taken off of them as I was getting better. My symptoms returned in December.

Day to day life is effected with pain and discomfort. I can't see what sets it off. I have no financial issues and I have a good life with a job and loving wife.

I keep telling myself it's just my depression but it doesn't make it any easier. It always creeps in my mind something bad is happening inside over time.

Does anyone suffer with similar symptoms? What has anyone found out that helps? If anything

Exercising does help me but it's feeling well enough to do it.

Chris

    Does your job effect this?

Sometimes stresses of work can cause this even if you are not stressed.

To start with last year I didn't want to go to work but now I know I have to. I used to have a stressful job but the company I work for now is less hours for more pay.

You would have to speak to the doctor. Could be anything. I find that diet effects the body. When I eat lots of junk I feel rubbish but when I eat lots of vegetables, fish, fruit etc feel a lit better. I used to get a lot of pain in the side of my stomach sometimes pain in chest but once I started exercising more and eating better the pain reduced. I try not to eat too much fatty meat.

I don't have a lot of money which frustrates me and I am limited to what kind of foods I can buy. I think the quality of food I buy and eat does effect my health. If I had more money to spend on food then I do think my diet would improve a lot more.

My chest pain can range from my collar bone to the top of my stomach.this will appear in different places on different days and if I press where it hurts it doesn't make it hurt anymore. I can cough and sneeze and get no pain when I do

Hi Chris79692, Yes, it seems that body pain can go into some sort of over-drive when depressed. I'm currently trying simple ibubrofen as all my other medications (tried many), seem to add more to me feeling so ill and weak as a kitten. I expect you see your doctor but perhaps itime for another try? My heart goes to all sufferers.

I am back on antidepressants now. Been on them for just over 3 weeks and they have really worked for me. I always doubt the problem was depression and anxiety but maybe this just proves that this is what it is. Relaxing in a bath really helps me and doing things that I enjoy really help too. There is always a light at the end

I am on them too.  I still don't know If they really work for me or not but I definately feel a lot better on them than what I felt before.  I find that the problem is by the time I finish taking my course of tablets I have a waiting gap for a few days before I can get the next course and I don't know if that effects my progress and can this do more harm than good?

I was on them for 5 months. I gradually got better and was taken off them slowly. After 6 weeks off them the symptoms came back. But I'm not like I was first time round. I have an understanding of what was happening and how my brain makes my body hurt. Taking the stress away doesn't make the pain go but being clearer in your head about what is going on really does help. It's takes the worry away. When you have an explanation of why a particular part of your body hurts and for what reason you tend not to worry as much

I would say I have a hormonal imbalance but nothing has been proven yet.  The current tablets which I am taking have definately calmed me down as I used to get worked up very easily and had some mild anger issues.  I don't find that smoking calms me down but in a strange way cleaning or burning candles seems to help.

That's a good way of looking at depression and anxiety. I see myself not with depression but with a chemical in balance or serotonin inefficiency. Your telling yourself then that what is not right can be fixed or helped. Always think outside of the box
