I go to a PMR physio at the hospital every 4-6 weeks and working very gently on my static bike is very successful for me.  I started at 1.3 minutes every other day and have built up to 15 minutes with no pain or flares.  Have gentle exerecises with rubber bands to strengthen weak muscles.  He stressed there should always be a rest day inbetween exercising and I observe this or just do a short walk on rest days.  What works for some, won't work for others.  My neighbour continued with gym 3 times a week and Scottish country dancing every week when she was diagnosed with PMR!!  This sounded completely impossible to me but for her it was normal!

That sounds a good PMR physio - they need cloning!!!!!

i skied with PMR although I have given up now for other reasons - but that is how I built up my mornings - a couple of runs at the beginning of the season an alternate days building up a tiny bit at a time over the season.

As for Scottish dancing - I'd have fallen over my feet doing a birl!

I have a wonderful physio who advised me against therapy, against massage, and definitely no yoga until the inflammation is gone. I rushed into massage and triggered the pain back. Rest your body. Walk. Soak in epsom salts.

HI Karen, I do see a physiotherapist who is well versed in PMR and osteoporosisis and her advice has really helped improve my posture and alignment so that any exercise I do is more effective. Her massages have been fantastic for me .i only wish I had started sooner as they are really helping my recovery. Hope you find something that helps you .🤗

My Dr has just sent me to a Physiologists for exercise on my legs and arms, they are quite easy exercises, I have had 2 lessons so far, too early to notice any change.  Also I am walking every second day, finding I get breathless going up hills, have to take it slowly, slowly.

when my symptoms first appeared, and medical help was a few thousand km and a couple of civilisations away, my very supportive wife tried some gentle massage. Only tried twice, but the after effects a couple of hours later were rather obviously painful, for both of us.

I've been lucky with the pmr progress. Eighteen months after diagnosis, pred getting down a bit, I needed a coronary stent and decided on rehab to be taken cautiously. Timing was just right and the vast improvement in my fitness has worked well.

I guess my feeling is that the way we respond to various treatments changes as our pmr runs its course. And its very different for all of us.
