Pick me up, PLEASE

Posted , 6 users are following.

Move, flu and PMR don't mix!!  I'm pretty ill at the moment - can't stand, very weak, tired all the time.  Does anyone know of any old fashioned "pick me ups".  Would love to hear about some.  Thanks in advance.

I'm so sorry Constance - the best pick-me-up is rest and good food really. And the holiday you earned by moving house in the first place ;-)

What pred dose are you on? Did you increase it to cover the flu and move? If you didn't then I would certainly consider trying a bit more until you feel better. What you are describing COULD match adrenal problems and you have certainly been under a lot of stress the last few weeks and it is very probable that your adrenals are struggling.

Thanks Eileen!  I put my pred up from 6 to 8 on yours and Mrs O's suggestion.  I won't try and reduce for a couple of weeks.

Would love to go on holiday, anywhere, but really am too weak to travel - even half an hour just sitting in the car exhausts me.  Must wait!!

Yes - if you were at 6mg then that could be the answer. Add a bit more if necessary.

Get better soon - it's nearly spring though from the weather forecast I suspect it doesn't look so where you are! Beautiful day here - but the forecast for next week is cooler and mixed. Excuse me - it'll be March then, time to get the van out and head for Lake Garda...

Don't make me jealous!!  I love Lake Garda, can't see me travelling there again for some time.

Don't be so daft - by the end of April you'll be back to feeling well again and it's quite chilly there until then!

More comments like that and I'll come and fetch you myself ;-) If I could get from here to the north of England in the state I was in 2 1/2 years ago - you can get there. The weather, food and wine are more attractive incentives at least...

This is one of the reasons I love this forum👏👏.  There is always someone to lighten the load and bring a smile to your face.  Eileen, you make me want to hop a plane and come to your beautiful part of the world.

Constance,  I hope you are feeling better very soon and can take Eileen up on her offer🌸

      Hugs,

As the saying goes :just when you thought it was safe:with super advice from the forums I had got down to 4mg of pred with no major problems, then Bang the worse dose off Man Flue I have ever had.i know I should up my pred, but at the moment I am trying to soldier on,I also try not annoy family with my windging, will be watching for any replys. All the best.Dave.

Think I was you, I'd up my press. I think it would just be for a very short time and then back down to your 4mg.

the old idea of Chicken soup made with the carcass if possible is always good. But I've found heavily seasoning it with chili, ginger and tumeric is great when you have the flu or a bad cold.

      hope you feel better soon

Never mind soldiering on - up the pred for a couple of weeks! It isn't going to be a problem going back down to a dose you knew you were OK at after just a couple of weeks - even to 5mg would be good, 7mg better. Prevention is better than cure.

Shame the flu jab didn't do a lot ofprevention this year. Someone on a forum last week had just been dx'd with PMR and given pred. Her GP was trying to persuade her to have the shingles jab (BIG no with pred) and the flu jab - you know, the one that is almost useless and which takes 3 weeks to create immunity anyway. Do GPs get paid a bonus for each flu shot they give?

      Get well soon!

As allways Mum knows best, have just topped up with 3mg with yogurt. i am due to go to york next weekend with family to take in a couple off shows. had FLU JAB??.i can not thank you Girls enough.thinking back I suppose i have had a easey ride so far. flippin heck. Take Care.Dave

Even if YOU hadn't had the flu jab, had it worked for others you would have been at a lower risk even though you hadn't had the jab. Something called herd immunity - not that the flu jab achieves that percentage in the UK but within certain populations it can do.

Hmmm - flu and York next weekend? On the one occasion I had proper flu I was 3 weeks before I could have even THOUGHT of going to a show! The memory of that is enough to send me for my flu jab! It was awful.

Dave, who's burying their hand in the sand then?!  Up that dose, and feel better.  Also sheilamac's suggestion of good old chicken broth for flu or any cold can be really helpful and comforting.  Adding plenty of garlic too.  Hope the "easy ride" returns soon.

Have a good, very old, pmup for you David.  Guiness and milk!  Sounds revolting, I know, but it really is good.  My D's grandmother swore by it (she was a midwife).  Certainy helped me years ago!  Unfortunately I can't get Guiness over here.

I bet you can if you look. There's bound to be an Irish pub somewhere in Koeln and it's heading for March 17th. How about Starkesbier? Must have similar properties, it being for Lent.

Though the one thing that I always have to bring for my Irish friends in Erlangen is Guiness!

Hope your feeling better David😊.  Great advice from the ladies as usual. Just a side note:  PMR likes to be the boss and if you push it, it will only push back harder (personal experience)😡  Infortunately PMR is the master here.

Meant to add - Starkesbier and "milk" - not so sure about that.  Easier to come by than Guiness though.  Will have a go.

I was always lead to believe, that we men were not so macho when it came to colds&flu and need a lot attention & sympathy, not true off course,I was going to say it is the other way around but had second thoughts on that one.take care. Dave

I always thought that Woman flu is when a woman has REAL flu and is laid very low, and that Man flu is usually when men suffer a heavy cold but act as though they have real flu.  REAL flu is rotten for both men and women.  I remember many years ago being laid up in bed with a dreadful dose of a flu virus that was running riot through the country, when a news presenter on tv said he'd just returned to work after recovering from flu and he sent a message to everyone suffering at that moment that they probably felt they were going to die but that they would get better.  It was amazingly comforting to hear that at that moment when feeling so ill.

I must say my hubby isn't a Man flu sufferer and never makes any fuss when he is ill, he just gets on with it.

What I was going to say only the site wouldn't let me on last night!

Man flu is a cold, woman flu is worse than real flu - she actually is forced to stay in bed ;-)
