Piles and LS

Does anyone else suffer from piles and anal fissures as a result of LS? Right now, I am having a flare up of everything. I have been having a hard time keeping things under control. Since being diagnosed, when I have a flare up I get anal fissures and piles. This morning, while putting on clobetasol, I notice a lump by the anus (TMI, I know, I am sorry) . I looked up all possibilbiies, and I am pretty sure it is a thrombosed pile. I am going to try to manange this thing from home. I find going to do the doctor for all things related to this is very humiliating.

Has anyone had this experience? Did yo uhave successful management from home?

I tell you, I am having a time of it. I had a miscarriage in January and ever since, I just can't get this LS under control and seems to be one thing after another.

Thank you for your help!

hello.  I can't really help with the actual problems you are suffering.  I just want to offer sympathy for the miscarriage in January, and all the pains  you are suffering.

Yes yes me too. Bit older than you but defo same symptoms. Usually when I can't keep things under control it means I've got the start of a Thrush infection. Red all the way round, itchy as hell (including piles) very similar symptoms to the LS. My doc usually does a swab to check as I usually tell her that things are out of control. She then prescribes for me which usually does the trick. However piles can be painful especially if you have scaring and going to the loo for a number 2 very stressful. Chin up I'm sure you'll get some great replies on the site. Everyone is here to help us all.

You have had to cope with a bit much all at once.  So sorry for you.

With your problem - perhaps try witch hazel?  Renee talks about this.  I myself have used a product called Bottoms Up Balm in the anus area, in which among other is also witch hazel.

Yes, I had that before I got my symptoms under control.  Eat lots of fibre and drink lots of fluids so that your bowel motions will be soft, straining is the worst thing you can do right now. Just before a motion its helpful to apply something greasy like nappy cream to the area, or aleo vera gel. Use something gentle like wet wipes (the water only ones) to cleanse afterwards. Avoid constipation at all costs!

Yes I do. I have IBS and suffer repeatedly with piles. Ive tried everything.

My advice switch to gluten free/lactose free diet. Take flakseeds 2 tablespoons a day and fresh lemon tea. These are natural laxatives that keel things soft.

Wipe with baby wipes soaked in witchhazel. Witchhazel is a natural estringent.

You have way too much going on. Your stress levels must be off the Reichter! Yes I had exactly the same. I went to specialist who told me the op would be worse than putting up with it. Another lot of useless advice. I put up with it for 20 years before I thought I would go insane. Between the pain, itching and bleeding. The operation was the best thing I ever did and getting control of my diet so that I eliminated straining. Drink  Lots of water and witch hazel or sudacrem (just like you would use on a babies bottom. Very gentle and soothing. I used to do a lot of salt baths at the time but we moved and I no longer have a bath so use bi carb and water sprays. Don't use powders around this area. If you are struggling with fibre take Metamucil. You might find that lump could be something else not quite so sinister. Try and find a good specialist to give every thing a "makeover". It will help eliminate a huge part of your stress. Lots of love - Mother Nature can be a bitch sometimes x

I am sorry your having such a rough time.  I agree that going to the doctor about these kind of  issues can be awfully embarrassing on top of everything else that you have to contend with, and so I must say I would want to try to sort it out  myself if at all possible.

It does sound like the stress of everything that you have been through has caused this flare, and  I believe that  thrombosed piles will often resolve themselves in about a week with the right treatment, if it is in fact a pile.  Maybe give it a few days and if it doesn't improve or start to disappear you might want to go and see a doctor after all.   I tend to eat three or four prunes everyday just to make sure that I am never constipated as piles can be a terrible thing to have to deal with, or you could even drink a small glass of prune juice every day.

I do hope things start to turn around for you soon, it sounds horrible, so hang in there!

    Hi kb,

yes I have piles and previously have had anal  fissures.  Someone recommended taking zinc tablets, which definitely helped but I still have piles and, like you, they appear during a flare-up (I'm having one now and it's very uncomfortable!). I cannot in all honesty say that home management has been successful but am loathe to see my doctor about it!!  Let me know what you decide to do.  Coconut oil is very soothing, as is emu oil.   Good luck.  Wendy

Thank you so very much for all your kind and helpful replies. I really appreciate it. The thrombosed pile seems to be not quite as painful today as yesterday. I am going to try all the  suggestions you have offered and hopefully I can take care of this at home. From what I read yesterday, it seems that lancing is really the only thing that clears up a thrombosed pile. I really hope I can avoid that.

Carol350, did your thrombosed pile resolve on its own or did you need intervention?

Thanks again. It is nice to have a community to turn to for help with this problem. This isn't something I would talk about with my friends or husband, and during these flare ups,  I feel quite lonely.

Hello and so sorry you're having problems.

i am 60 and was diagnosed with LS about 15 years ago. I also suffer from piles but I am not sure they are related. I've suffered from constipation and my LS always flares up at that time.when  I mentioned a connexion to my gp he said there was none.

I keep my LS under control with dermovate but I hardly need to use it now.

I has a trombosed  pile just outside the anus and yes it is embarrassing to show it to the doctor but they're seen plenty before you. It is their job. He sent me to a consultant who wanted to operate. No thank you. Anyway to cut a long sorry short, I read a book called fiber menace and followed the author's advice ie a low fibre diet, L glutamine and a good probiotic. The pile went back where it came from.

I hope this is helpful to you.

I'm so sorry about the miscarriage ??, I love gelmicin it has steroid and anti fungal and anti bacterial, so it works fast especially if thrush or yeast? A pea size works to get everything under control again.

I am so sorry about all you have been thru and are going thru. I have always had a problem with constipation but since LS I have to be even more careful so my piles don't act up. I make sure I drew know a lot of water and way a lot of fiber and also take Metamucil every day. This has helped so stools stay soft and the piles don't act up. When on occasion I do have a problem I use a little witch hazel on the pile and that seems to resolve it. Hope this helps and good luck.

I am going through a flare up at the moment after months of being symptom free and I have piles too. I am using a natural herbal remedy for the piles (mixture of meadowsweet and silverweed in an ointment), this usually clears the piles but I can't seem to get on top of the symptoms with my betnovate ointment and castor oil which usually works.
