Piles - long term sufferer looking for treatment, advice needed!!

Posted , 5 users are following.

So I have been suffering with haemorrhoids since giving birth to my second son, initially I didn't really get any real pain or discomfort from them so after a Doctors appt and applying a few creams (unsuccessfully) I just really lived with the condition.

This was obviously a mistake as things gradually got worst. I now find myself in pain pretty much constantly, whether I'm just sitting down or mobile, there is no rest bite . I have an active job and 2 young boys so this is starting to really affect both my home and work life.

I have been researching treatment options online and was hoping to get some opinions from people who have suffered like myself?

From what i have read surgery can be very painful with the recovery sometimes lasting months, banding has similar feedback. I have read up on Electrotherapy and although i don't like the thought of an electric current down there the reviews are really positive, has anybody had this treatment? Also Sclerotherapy?

Any advice would be very much appreciated...

    hi Donnajc,

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this. Your story sounds like mine as my hemorrhoids worsened after 2nd baby to the point where they completely ruined my quality of life. I decided to have a hemorrhoidectomy on June 12 of this year and so far I keep saying that I'm so glad I did it! Does the surgery hurt? Yes it does, but what surgery doesn't? I was obsessed worrying about the pain, reading every horror story before I had the surgery. It really occurs to me now though that of course it was going to hurt, but sometimes no pain no gain! Ensure that you get the proper medications including prescription narcotics and use ibuprofen and acetaminophen and you will get by. As another poster on this forum put it "the pain will pass." I was back to work without any concern 20 days after surgery. I would def recommend at least 2 weeks to recover to a more normal functioning level and then 6-8 weeks or longer to be fully healed. I only have very slight tenderness when I touch the area to wash after bowel movements otherwise I'm completely normal and am soooo happy to have my life back!! I have even started running again. To sum up, I went from 2 years of pain, not being able to even go for a 10 mins walk or play with my kids, or do normal household chores without being in constant pain to no pain at all, normal living, and now running!!!

I had 2 rounds of bandings in the year prior to the full surgery. I'm really glad I did as it took care of the internal hemorrhoids and then the surgery removed another mixed external/internal which could not be banded. The pain from banding was not bad at all. Ibuprofen only to manage and not at all in the same pain category as the full surgery!!

I'm telling you all this as you should explore banding before surgery. it may not fix all the hems but if you go for surgery it might cut down on the number of hems you would need removed potentially cutting down on pain and complications.

All I can say is that I wish I would have done it sooner. Yes, it hurts afterward, but you will get through it and within only a few short weeks you will start getting your life back!!! Good luck

had sclerotherapy due to bleeding mostly i had it done two times and I did great fir 8 months just went back because started bleeding again so she gave me another injection two days ago . Praying this works again because i am on blood thinners and would have to come off for a while to do banding and after reading about do not want that sounds too painful. If i were you would give it a try not the most comfortable experience but tollerable pain wise and not lasting pain.

    Hope this works

      Hi Anne-Marie,

I had a sclerosing injection decades ago which helped quite a bit. My hemorrhoids have gotten worse recently, and I have not been able to find a doctor near me that still offers sclerosing injections. I am in a somewhat less populated area, but so far haven't been able to locate a doctor in the two nearby cities. What area do you live in?

      Thanks!

sorry to hear your feeling this way.

i have never had kids but have suffered for 15 years with all Grade 4 hemorrhoids.

For me I tryed everything ... tryed a medication you can buy over the counter called VENIXXA

I found using this has gave me more relief then anything. After 6 months I met with my Surgeon

and IF you in pain DO NOT do banding I tryed very painful as they dont give you anything while attempting to band them.

I was then booked for surgury .. I did it and I'm 1 month past recovery and I'm grateful I did it.

They removed 3 grade 4 Hemorrhoids.

I had a G.I doctor already and found my surgeon through a trip to the ER. My story is all over this website but if you tryed everything then maybe surgury is best ...

my experience was not the greatest first 2 weeks but do not google it worst thing you can do.

everyone is different I wish you luck
