I sandwiched myself in with pillows made it to eight weeks and now sleep normally. Yes huge struggle

    Hi Marilyn

I used to put pillows down the side of my leg whilst I had to sleep on my back and they just nudged and supported me which helped me to sleep better on my back. It took some experimenting with but in the end I slept well. The scar can make side sleeping really hard. I have also recently tried one single session of hypnotherapy and it has improved my sleeping no end. I dont usually go in for that sort of thing but now would highly recommend it - one hour has delivered hundreds of better hours sleep. Good luck smile

Hi Christine. I thought I would hate sleeping on my back as I always sleep on my stomach but so far I have had no trouble, I think I am just exhausted from all the exercises and doing that little bit more housework!  I read a lot too which really helps me to drift off.  I will eventually go back to sleeping on my stomach though but not sure at what point we should be able to do that?  Its almost 4 weeks now since I had my RTHR.  I have to have the LTHR done in September so not always comfortable anyway!

Hi Sandra - totally in sympathy with not getting that comfortable. My Right hip not right since THR op in Dec 13. Going in for LTHR in late June 15 then a revision to right hip later in year.

Just try not to rush things. I treated myself to a tablet and watched whole series of TV shows which was a great distraction and helped with sleep problems too.

Good luck and be patient! x

Thank ,you Christine!  Will take it slowly, slowly and not do too much.  I am practically free of pain in my operated hip but I do get a nagging pain at the back of my thigh if I do too much.  I expect that is the muscles knitting back together?  My Left Hip is another story! Excrutiatig pain if I am not careful as it is slowly coming out of its socket, but that is what happened with my right one before it was operated on so I am used to dealing with it. Lots of painkillers! I waited 6 months for the first op but the surgeon was fantastic.  I had it done in Cheltenham General.  Yes, I treated myself to a new laptop and a Samsung A5 mobile!  I binge watch loads of stuff!  It really takes my mind off things!  Where did you have your op?

I find sleeping on my back very difficult, had RTHR on Wednesday and I am using a v pillow to sleep which helps but still don't sleep well 😔

    Hi Marilyn,

in answer to your question, I bought a large v shaped maternity pillow, works great, hope this helps :-)

Do you use the v shaped pillow in between your knees or have it at your back

I laid it on the bed and laid in the middle of it with my head on the top as a pillow, they are very long so the sides go right down the side of both legs, you can get them on ebay, good luck, I know it's horrid sleeping on your back.
