Pilonidal sinus not healing

If there is no discharge or pus and only blood i think that is a good sign and they would only have to make an excision if it was reinfected. Are you still having the wound packed? Warm baths daily will help to heal tissue as will plenty of sleep. Let a nurse at your surgery have a look she will be able to help you.

my son had open excision on 1 August 2007 this still has not completely closed he also has no blood or drainage but it just doesn't seem want to heal what next?

Hi, i'm not too sure as I have not healed myself just yet, is he still having the wound packed daily? if not you need to see a nurse at your surgery they can take a look and recommend the best thing to do. I have heard of something called vac packing where they place a sponge over the wound and attach something like a vaccum on it and it helps to heal wounds but i am not sure wether it can be used for these wounds. Nurses are wound specialists if your local g.p surgery can't help then ring your surgeons secretary and explain to her that it is not healing.

I have only bleeding and no discharge... and no longer packing as the wound is not to the surface. It seems to heal like a yo-yo. some weeks it seems to be healing fine and blood is discharged less and less everyday then other occasions the healing process seems to work backwards and more and more blood is released.

Guest - I suggest your son to use aquacel on top of the wound as it seems to absorb and heal the wound better.... its just expensive when combined with mepilex border (A plaster to hold it in place which doesnt pull your skin when you take the plaster off)

No, i have been advised to just use plain warm water. I was putting tea tree oil in at first as this is antiseptic it never did any harm but i don't use it anymore. I think these things just take time, maybe you should try getting some air to the wound, difficult i know maybe lie on you belly on your bed and read a book in the nude for an hour or so each day. Only if it is covered all the time it stays moist and cannot form a scab.

i had to have exiscion of pilonidal sinus in november 16th 2007 and i had an infection on the last stitch and it would not heal it has only healed this month dont worry it wont mean youll hav 2 hav an operation

they are using promogram prisma twice a week, unfortunately this is a treatment more than a dressing containing collagen but this dissolves after 24 hours surgery nurse won't change the dressing because consultant hasn't advised her to do so (it was him who suggested changing the dressing twice a week instead of once a day initially it seemed to make a difference but not for long,) my son has since got an infection where they have prescribed fluoxicillin and metrizonidal he has already taken this for one week, they took a swab 10 days after the course was completed and he has to take them again. The consultant doesn't know why he isn't healing, he did a probe and doesn't think it is back. I think I should go back to the doctor as opposed to the nurse to see if they will change the dressing

I have had 12 operations with no success rate in 10months. Eventually in my 11-12 month they did a skingraft, took a square of skin off my left buttocks cheek and placed it over the hole. I am 16yrs old my mom cleans and dresses my wound but everyday it gets yellow and pussy and it smells awful. In one month they did 6 of the operations. My mom still sees the hole although the skin graft hasn't yet settled and smells disgusting. I will be going for my wound to be cleaned today because of the puss. I am so frustrated with this it is starting to ruin my whole social life. Has anybody got some advice for me. I would reallappreciate it. I no longer want to go to hospital because I have already been in hospital for 1year with this.
