Pinky toe pain

My 28 year old son has an inflamed pinky toe. It looks swollen and red. He says the pain is unbearable. He works 2nd shift in a factory and not working is not an option. Any help with ideas for pain and what it might be. Thanks!

Hi, he will need to go to the doctors. No one on here could tell you what it is without seeing it 😊

Cathy, does he have an ingrown nail that you can see? Can you see a bite mark? Can you figure out where the pain is coming from or is it in general, the whole toe?  Have you tried soaking it in epsomn salts bath?  I would take some Motrin and soak it and you could even try taping it ( not too tight) to the 4th toe to help immobilize it. If it isn’t better in a couple days, I would see a Dr for sure.
