Pinky trouble post op

I'm 10 Days post op. Ever since the bulky dressing came off at Day 5 my pinky is feeling "weird" like it's not part of the rest of my hand. It wants to go off on its own when I move the rest of my hand. At first I thought it was from being bound by the bandages for 5 days. It's not numb and I'm not sure I'd describe the feeling as pain. Maybe a little achy. Also my wrist on that side has been hurting. Also thought that was due to the bulky dressing and my hand being confined and now able to move. My incision and the rest of my fingers feel great. Wasn't expecting to have discomfort in places I wasn't before surgery. Anyone else experience this? I'm due to have stitches out in 2 days and I'll discuss all this with surgeon then. Thanks

Hi Kate. I'm not a doctor, but I have had CT surgery last year and had a variety of different symptoms in my hand. I think that what you are experiencing is due to the fact that your pinky finger is not served by the medien nerve that serves the thumb and first three fingers. Its quite possible that the medien nerve is recovering from the procedure therefore your pinky would not have been affected. Hope that makes sense. Good luck anyway.

Thank you for your reply, Jim.  It's crazy how much that finger was bothersome.  Having said that, I am 16 days post op (dominant hand) and 100% satisfied with the results and the recovery process.  I'm heading back to work next week.  I will not hesitate to have the left hand done when that appt comes round.  My heart goes out to the folks who have not had good results.

The pinky finger problem is interesting to me because I had the very same issue!  I can't figure out how the baby finger was involved in CTR surgery, unless it has to do with the way the hand is immobilized during the procedure; however, that discomfort was the first thing I felt when the freezing came out.  The finger was completely bruised and inflamed and painful. I'm now 14 days post op and will have stitches removed tomorrow.  The good news - my pinkie finger is totally back to normal.  I've not babied the hand, doing exercises from day 2 on, and the daily progress was encouraging.  Hope it helps to know that someone else had that funky pinky finger thing.

Hi Kate, your problem with your pinky finger might be related to Ulna Nerve damage.  Have your Neurologist include ulna nerve in your EMG.  I am 1-1/2 years post op and I am still experiencing weakness and pain in my left hand.
