Piondial Abcess Surgery

A few months ago i had surgery for a piondial abcess. Id had 3 abcess’s previous but had managed to drain them at home, never seen a doctor for them as they wernt as severe. This one was horrendous. No sleep, constant hot sweats, crying with the pain. Went to the doctor and they rushed me to general surgery as it was a huge abcess on the verge of bursting under the skin which could have been serious, i was rushed into emergency surgery. I woke up from the surgery in agony, i was dosed up on more painkillers and took the the ward. After a few hours, i stood up to go to the loo, there was blood everywhere. It was spirting out of the dressing and i freaked and passed out. Woke up to being poked and prodded by a consultant and it hurt so bad i made them stop. Gas and air was brought in and i used that while they pulled all the packing out of the wound. I was told id need more surgery as the blood vessels around the wound had burst and i was losing to much blood. Rushed in for another surgery less than 12 hours after the first. Kept in hospital for a few days then went home to rest. Few months later after all the packing, i felt another lump. My first wound still hadnt healed, but i went to the doctors who referred me to a specialist. I see the specialist in 2 days time. The wound has now heald i guess (skin over the wound) but i think there is a tunnel. If i lean on anything, press at the top of where the wound starts, it makes a squelshing noise and clear fluid comes out of a very small pinprick in the skin. Has anyone else had this, where it has healed over the top but theres still a cavity, and what happned? Im too scared of another surgery. Im already freaked as i have a cyst that most likely will need removed, but they wont do that if theyre reopening the wound. Will it need reopened for the cavity?

Hey! I'm experiencing something very similar. Had emergency abscess removal back in January of the year, multiple wound infections and two wound breakdowns. Attend hospital daily for packing and dressing changes, five months later this is still happening. Wound is tiny, clean and healthy tissue, however, it refused to close. Seen surgeon he has said I need another surgery as he suspects infected tracts from the wound as there are two spot like lumps to the right of the Wound, he applied a little pressure and they just burst with gooey nastiness. I thought this fluid was blood from the open wound for months as it's still open, but no. It's from the infected tracts. He's put me forward for emergency mri, following this either he or a plastic surgeon will open me back up, remove everything and stitch me back up this time as packing has proved ineffective. Had a total meltdown, almost battering the doctor as for weeks I've been told I'm healthy it's closing and I can return to work-- haha not anymore! I was devastated but realise if I don't go through with it in going to get seriously ill and it's not worth the risk. Just get all the info you can, get all the scans you can get as I have just found out infected tracts may not appear in blood tests. I totally empathize with you, and hope all is sorted for you soon. Just focus on getting healthy as I've been depressed since this all started, I now know all aspects of me need to function properly and work together as nothing is going to heal or change if I end up a total mess like I have been the last few months x

I'm in a similar boat, however, they suspect infected tracts. The consultant has told me that I'll have to have surgery to reopen, investigate and remove everything. Although, the severity is unknown as I may need plastic surgery. I feel the same fobbed off and left in the dark, I'm doing research online all the time but it freaks me out there is so much I don't understand so many different procedures risks and positives. This has totally screwed up my life, I honestly don't think the consultant has considered the ramifications of what's happened to me and what's about to happen I can lose everything because of this--no exaggeration. I think we just need to put our feet down and demand to know all the information no matter how minor or major it is. I know my second surgery is coming soon, next few weeks I'm desperate to know what's happening. Just push for the best specialist and surgeon, push for the best after care and support plans. Now I'm having to go through this a second time, I have a better idea of what's going to happen. Just make sure you have a good auport system round you, and don't let the doctors, nurses and the rest push you around x

Id speak to a a doctor or something as it may look healed but it still needs to be checked. Both my nurse and I thought mine had healed over properly but had healed from inside out, when it in needs to be inside out that's why it kept breaking down the skin and tissue wasn't strong enough. If you could take a picture and email it to your consultant to save the trip? My hospital is only a mole away so it's not too bad for me but definitely keep an eye on it and update the consultant so they know what's going on, explain your concerns and make sure they check everything I.e all the tests they can do. I was told I was in the mend I could return to work and now I'm still waiting for my 'emergency' surgery despite the wound and tissue being clean and healthy, on the inside there is infected tracts so what it's good it's healed but you don't know what's happening on the inside. Sorry if all this sounds crap, but I wouldn't risk it. Just stand your ground and make sure they give you the best possible care and ask for a colorectal specialist as they specialise in this type of thing x

My only issue is i have recieved the letter with confirmation or the name of the surgeon or anything, as the consultant who saw me isnt the one doing the surgery. I dont want to go all the way to hospital for thw surgeon to say ah well it looks fine we’ll not bother, then me have more issues. I wish the consultant seeing me was the one operating because he knows the situation and has seen the wound and assesed and seen the state underneath, whereas the surgeon hasnt x

It's crao how we have to see various numbers of people, and there is no consistency. Ask the name of each person you have contact with and the topic discussed, so hopefully the professionals actually discuss things with each other. Do you know the actual surgeons name? And their specialism? Ask the consultants for a copy of your notes, so you can take evidence with you each time, as they don't seem to communicate with one and other. I totally get your frustration my current nurse practitioner is having to chase my surgeon, I've called x2 no answer. x
