Pip assesment today... puzzled

Hi everyone.... I've suffered with rhuematoid arthritis for 9 years now - I'm 29, diagnosed at 20. It's never been under control, I have been through loads of biologic drugs, humiera, cimzia, enbrel, tocilizumab to name a few (sorry about spelling) all no improvement or reactions to them. Been on high dose mtx could not tolerate it even tried injecting it. Tried hydro whatever it's called and sulfasalazine no good. Currently on infliximab an trying just 2 tablets of mtx to see how I go. I've had no improvement yet but just infections after infusion like all other treatments I did. Also have patchy colitis, underactive thyroid and bad depression.

My wrists are fused I can not move them at all. A couple of toes also. My fingers are really deformed already, and my left knee has been swollen for 2 years. Fluid turned to gel so draining no good and steriod injections don't work. Struggle in every day to day thing, and my mobility is awful.

My joints effected are, toes, feet, ankles, knees, ribs/breastfeeding bone, shoulders sometimes, wrists, all fingers, neck and jaw when I'm bad.

As well as my infusion, I'm on :

Mst 60mg morning and night

Oramorph 10mg 4 x a day

30mg amitriptyline

Lansorapzle

prednisolone 6 a day

Diclofenac 50mg 3x a day

Sertraline 50mg a day

Mtx 10mg a week

Folic acid

Senna 2 a day

Ducosate 4 a day not sure of mg on last 2

Think that's all

Anyhow the reason I'm posting... Sorry for all the info wanted to give yous a quick background.

Today I had a pip assessment... the lady was lovely and it was not scary at all. I had been petrified, I had read on here they make you feel comfortable so you drop your guard if you have one. I was completely honest an just told her how I was didn't exaggerate as some people told me to.

She didn't really ask many questions or the questions I was expecting... like how many bad an good days do you have.

She was also putting words in my mouth kinda.. finishing my sentences.

When she had finished the questions an talk she said I would normally now ask you to do some things an would assess you on that - but I can clearly see how much pain your in an I can see from your joints how you are... and also the amount of pain relief your on tells how bad you are. So I am refusing to do that an I will state that in my report.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Or have any thoughts on what the outcome could be. I've read a lot about them saying one thing to you an then receiving different things in your report.

I have suffered for years with this... an never applied for this after people telling me too.

I'm at a point now where I'm house bound an literally can not do much at all. I feel ashamed being out in pupil the way I walk because I'm a young woman. I just can't cope any more an hope I do get this now so I can get extra help.

Any advise or previous experiences shared would kindly appreciated

Regards

Hi everyone..... I've just got off the phone. To a delightful gentleman.

I have good news...... I was awarded enchanted rate for both components untill 2020.

I am due to receive £5966.33 in back pay this week.

    It wasn't 49 weeks I previously said sorry. Around 45 I think.

Thought I'd let you all know all the info I was given.

Hi.I'm not sure where to write so I'm hoping this is the write area. I found this thread after searching Google in desperation for help to put my mind at rest.I had a really nice lady home visit me 29th June early morning. I have been waiting ever since. The only letter I've had so far is an apology for PIP taking so long, and that they now have enough information. I have days when I am unable to do things for myself due to serious back pain.I have shakes, and am on various drugs for anxiety and pain relief. I cannot be around many people due to mental health issues. This wait it making me physically sick with worry.I cannot even go out for fresh air at the moment because I am stuck lying on the settee.I've had a series of nerve root block injections recently.I don't know what else to write.I hate the feeling of being alone.I am glad to read some people on here have got positive news.

      Hi skipspotter and welcome,

I know that some people on here have been waiting a very long time to hear about their decision, I only had my assessment last week, so have no idea how long it will be before I hear anything.

I can totally understand that the wait is making you physically sick, it is really horrible.  Have you asked for a copy of your assessment report, that's what most people on here have done.  I rang yesterday and was told that they will request mine for me.

I wonder if you have a friend or someone who could maybe take you out in a wheelchair or something, so that you can get some fresh air. Hopefully now that they have enough information, it won't be too long before you hear from them again.   Hang on in there x

Hi, I had my assessment on 23rd June and am still waiting.  I too have mental health problems so I feel very anxious about finding out.  Unfortunately in some areas, people are not hearing for 8-10 weeks following an assessment so you may have to be prepared to wait a few weeks longer.  I agree with Sukes - try to get some support from family, friends or health workers.  Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to speed up the process.  Good luck.

      Hiya

6 weeks today and still no news , I rang them and they said they had a big workload , so all can do is wait.

I think there must be quite a lot of people applying for PIP at moment and they are getting behind in some areas.

I'm gonna give it another couple of weeks and ring again

    • Posted

Yes, I read on another forum that they were now taking 8-10 weeks to decide from assessment to decision!  Coming up to six weeks for me!  We shall just have to support eachother with the wait!
    • Posted

Yeah not much we can do about it

hope your report turns up soon it might put your mind at rest a bit at least.

    • Posted

Yes, I must admit I am beginning to worry - not the sort of thing you want to go astray in the post and be opened by a complete stranger!  I will ring up on Thursday if it hasn't arrived by then as it will have been 2 weeks since I requested it x

Really annoyed!  I called the DWP this morning as it has been a fortnight since I rang for a copy of my assessment and she said it has not even been posted out yet!  I asked why and she said they are short staffed and have a backlog but it has been passed on to the relevant dept and should be sent out soon!  I told her I was disappointed as the lady I spoke to a fortnight ago told me that I should receive it in about 10 days time!  Nothing I can do - so the wait goes on........ I have a feeling they are going to take longer notifying people of their awards if they are understaffed and have backlogs!  My assessment was 5 weeks ago so I was hoping to hear soon!  I bet they are all off on their hols now that the kids have broken up for Summer! rolleyes

That's terrible TCake!!! They need to pull there finger out.... you've waited long enough now. I would just keep ringing, daily if you have too.

I got my report today... i only rang a couple of days ago for it xx

    • Posted

Glad you got yours - I bet they have just forgotten or lost mine!
    • Posted

Oh blimey, that's terrible TCake, surely it doesn't  take 2 weeks to put a piece of paper in an envelope, frank it and pop it in the post and as you say they are probably all off on their hols now that schools are finished. grrrrr

      Hiya TCake

thats a bit bad ain't it I thought mine took long enough, must have been lucky with mine being just over two weeks .

Did you say you are in the north I think they are a bit slower up here.

    • Posted

yes - and slower because the dpw are off abroad spending the bonus's!

    • Posted

Yeah your probably right the whole thing is a shambles

and looking on these forums there's more disabled people not getting the help they need I can't believe .  It's outrageous, the government should be ashamed of themselves!

    • Posted

yes.  Lots of people losing their blue badges, mobility cars etc.  Some really poorly people must be becoming more poorly from the outcomes!
    • Posted

Oh dear TCake, I'm sorry that lol face was in reply to your message about the DWP are off abroad spending the bonus's, but it looks as if I was laughing at your comment about lots of people losing their blue badges and mobility cars etc, which I wasn't - Sorry.

I forgive you!  All the big bosses with fat pay cheques tent to go to take their holiday now - dwp workers, half the government, Phil and Holly from This Morning  smile They aren't bothered about the higher prices during the kids school holidays or the rubbish Euro exchange at the mo!  My consultant and doctor are both on holiday this week too - I wish I could go on holiday - but no, I am too ill and cannot afford it! sad

    • Posted

Don't feel too bad - the vast majority of severely ill and disabled can't go abroad not because they can't afford the holiday cost, but the insurance premiums!!

I want to go to both battlefields - WW1 & WW2 for a week each.

I have spent the best part of a month trying to get quotes. 95% refused to quote me - and the cheapest that did - the AA  would not quote for multiple trips in a year - only a single trip - £1587 for 7 days in France!!!!!

So that has saved me the cost of getting a passport - looks lke I am stuck in the UK with the over inflated costs.

Our last holiday last year to Yorkshire for a week cost us £720 rent for the week with another £700 on top for food, fuel etc.

Thomsons do a cruise for a week round the Canary Islands late summer - all inclusive, outside cabin - £1380 for the two of us!!

I don't no if this is of any help but age concern do really cheap holiday insurance , not sure if there are any age limitations but worth a phone call .

    • Posted

You would think so and I have tried them.

After putting all of information on the website quote the magic answer comes up - 'we are sorry but we cannot give you a quote'.

AgeUK were in the 95% that refused to entertain me along with SAGA and my current house/motor insurers, but thanks for the suggestion.

    • Posted

As I have said earlier, the AA gave the best - £72 for a single trip BUT no pre-existing conditions will be covered unless I give them another £1587!

I know exactly what you mean about holiday Insurance. I have to pay a fortune if I want to go abroad because I have unstable Angina.  Mind you I detest flying full stop and now with all the terrorists attacks, I'm even more nervous about going places.  I know it's irrational, but there you go.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but the DWP are not paid bonuses of any kind, because they don't do the assessments.  It's ATOS,Capita and Maximus who do the assessments and the reports are then sent back to the relevant decision makers at DWP.  These companies are  paid on a claimant by claimant basis and according to some reports their staff are paid bonuses depending on how may assessments they get through. Remember whenever you ring the DWP you are only talking to a bod in a call centre, with nothing but basic access to your records.  The DWP are in the hands of the assessment companies when it comes to how long it takes for the reports to be completed and sent to the relevant decision makers, so they may not even be in receipt of your report when you ring to ask for it.  Claimants ARE entitled to see the report, but usually the only time they will ask for a copy is when they have had their decision and want to challenge it - in these cases the claimant has a time limit in which to ask for a reconsideration, so the DWP are obliged to send out a copy in good time for them to do this.  Asking for a copy of the report before the decision has been made will inevitably result in a delay because in actual fact the DWP ARE working with a backlog, and may not be in a position to let you have a copy there and then. - they may not even be in possession of it themselves, depending on how soon after your assessment you ask for a copy.
