Pityriasis Rosea Contagious??

My daughter, 9 years old, was dignosed with Pityriasis Rosea last Tuesday.  She was prescribed Hydrocortisone for the itching, but luckily she has not had a phase of itchyness.  She has been more annoyed by the visibility of the rash if anything.  I have read up on this diagnosis so much, and cannot find where anyone has mentioned it being contagious.  Our pediatrician has told us several times that it is not contagious, as well as many on call Dr's.  As of last Friday, my entire family started to break out with the rash and we are experiencing the itchyness.  Is there even a possibility that this can be contagious?  I am becoming very frustrated with no clear answers.

One good thing out of all of this is, I tried the Head and Shoulders shampoo remedy that people have advised with my daughter and her rash dried up within 24 hours!  That was unbelieveable!  She is one happy camper .... all dried up and fading very very quickly!!  Now the rest of our family is experiencing the beginning stages.

Great news for your daughter! I hope the healing continues. The characteristics do not sound like pityriasis. I had it for weeks and did not transmit it to my family. This condition is commonly misdiagnosed.

Could you have a fungal infection? 1 dermatologist said i had a fungal infection (in spite of not being itchy and prescribed creams) another dermatologist said I probably picked up scabies in changing rooms in shops, another said I had severe allergy to some medication i was on (he prescribed IV treatment for 6 days which of course didnt not help at all) .

the final dermatologist diagnosed PR and gave me cortico steroids to put on my skin. Hope u get it sorted quickly

I did some research as well. Most think that it is viral, but not contagious. I got a pretty bad case but no one else in my family got it. I haven't read anything about it bring contagious. So sorry for your situation!! Bless your heart. Tanning helped slit!!
