Pityriasis rosea - don't panic

Dear all

I broke out with this horrible rash two weeks ago. I am due to get married in 5 weeks and went into a panic - how could i wear my dress looking like this - i'd look like a freak - what about my honeymoon - my hen night will be a disaster - I cant do any excersise so i'll be fat and spotty, i can't have a spray tan (despite everything i'd read, sunbeds just made it worse) so i'll be pale fat and spotty!! and a whole range of other panics!

The one thing I have realised is that the more I stress the worse it gets!

Yes it's unsightly but so what, my fiancee still loves me and still wants to marry me! Yes it's itchy and uncomforatble but I keep slappping on the calamine lotion and I'm coping.

It's making me re-asses whats important at the end of the day it's a rash (not to detract from how upsetting it can be - believe me I know!!) but most cases resolve themselves fairly quickly. It's not life threatening and it will usually go away.

I just wanted to say to anyone else who's suffering - please don't let it ruin your life, I nearly did and it just makes it worse. Stay positive, eat well, drink water, sleep lots, manage your syptoms and give it time. Worrying just makes it worse. Good luck and please keep your fingers crossed for me. smile

So did your PR go away by your wedding day? How long did it take for it to completely go away? i was diagnosed about 10 days ago.

I'm really not bothered about what I look like but it's the itching which is driving me insane. I'm getting about 3-4 hours of sleep a night over the past few days and trying to cope with a new teaching job. I have had it with serious itching for 9 days now. How much longer can I expect the itching stage to last or does it carry on itching until the rash goes? Nothing seems to relieve it for more than a few minutes.
