Not without prednisone. But diet was very helpful in preventing weight gain - gave up most carbs, particularly the grain based ones, and sugars, not so much root vegetables which as as a vegetarian I think I need for their nutritional value.

The past four decades on a high complex-carbs diet.

Since PMR, weight gain on pred has proved impossible!

It doesn't work - the only thing that manages PMR/GCA is pred. You may be able to mitigate the adverse effects of pred with diet (cutting carbs) and that may also reduce the inflammation a bit too.

Every so often someone arrives on the forums saying the same, terrified of pred. In over 12 years I have only met one who stuck to diet and claimed it worked. All the rest have come back and admitted it didn't and they are now on pred.

Having lived on a plant based diet for 30years and still having pmr my reply is the jury is definitely out on its benefit fir the condition/inflammation itself. However, a low carb, high fat diet helps most people manage or lose weight that pred and/or inactivity can contribute to. I do think my high carb days are a bit more painful but I habe never been tempted while living on a vegan or vegetarian diet to stop my daily dose of pred.
