Plantar Fasciitis

I have been suffering with PF since last 6 months. Been for therapies, done exercises, stretches, different shoes, shoe soles and what not. Not seeing any improvement. Doctor is now advising me to get cortisone injections, which I am dreading to take. Has anyone tired acupuncture? I would really like a some feedback from someone who has tried it.

Hard to answer. I tried it and yes, it does work for a little while. If done by someone competent, it should relieve pain but for less than 24 hours. It is not a cure but should give you temporary relief. A TENS unit works about as well by the same general principal. I don't understand why you dread cortisone. It is not painful and has been used safely for more than 70 years to treat a variety of problems. It too is not a cure but should give relief for at least a few days or more while you can work on stretching and healing your Plantar fascia. Get the cortisone injection and tape your foot with LOW- DYE taping to rest your plantar fascia. Find a taping method on youtube.

Hi nails yes I've tried acupuncture , I didn't get any relief from it and I had 6 sessions but I think that everyone is different and it depends how bad your p f is  I've had scans and have tried everything including surgery I have more surgery booked as my p f is really bad ,the cortisone injections  are painful especially when  they inject into the p f but it does give a little relief for a couple of weeks ,you have to try things to no if they are going to work for you,,,  you'll get lots of advice from everyone but we're all different and our p f is also different my advice is go to a reputable  podiatrist who specialises in p f and get a scan to make sure your getting the right diagnosis it makes a big difference to the treatment you receive. Good luck.

I am a retired physician and plantar fasciitis patient.  Here's my story.  My plantar fasciitis began around February 2016.  After about four months, it completely resolved.

Here's what I think.  Plantar fasciitis is inflammation in the area of the attachment of the plantar fascia to the heel bone.  This begins from trauma and/or some minimal tearing of the plantar fascia (just a few fibers) that results, naturally, in inflammation which is the body's way of healing any tissue injury.  Inflammation hurts until it heals and resolves.

So what's so difficult about curing P.F.?  Well we walk on it!!!  Let's say we take 5000 steps a day.  Imagine inflammation of your elbow, (i.e. tennis elbow).  Imagine taking your sore "tennis elbow" and wacking it against the wall, 5000 times a day.  Think it would heal quickly?  I don't either.

So my cure for plantar fasciitis is cushion, cushion and cushion!!!  That's right - cushion your heel!!!  Here's what I did.  First, I wore the plantar fasciitis "relief bridge" gel-heel innersole in my shoes - that I got at Walgreen's for about $11.  (I plan to use them indefinitely in my shoes.)  Then I wear a pair (usually) of nice thickish sox.  On my heel I wore fasciitis therapy wrap padded supports that I got on the internet for about $13.  (I don't wear them any more.)  So when I had my PF, under my heels I had 3 cushion layers.  I wore this about 24 hours a day - except when in the shower or swimming.  And after about 4 months, the PF was totally gone.

I did have one cortisone shot.  It caused more pain for a few days.  Then the pf continued to slowly get better.  I'm not convinced it helped - but who knows.  But I'd bet on cushion over cortisone.

That's what I think.  I hope this helps you and the many other sufferers of plantar fasciitis.  doknabox
