plantar fasciitis and physio

Good morning
My GP has referred me for physio after a disastrous and painful steroid injection.
The injection did not work, which I had in March.
I have done all the exercises known to man given to me and now need this to stop.
I am a carer for my hubby who has MS so I need to be fit as I am not fit for both of us.
wish me luck

Please keep us informed as to how you get on with the physio. There have been some very negative comments about physio being helpful for PF and I for one would be very interested in how you get on. Can you tell us how long you've had PF? Thanks.

I have had this pain for 4 months maybe longer.
I personally don't think it will help but I have to try something.
I will keep you all informed.
In 2011 and 2012 I had knee surgery after a fall I was also told at the time I had torn my calf muscle. Maybe this is the cause.

I was first diagnosed nearly 8 years ago. Went through all the same things, doctor, consultant, injections which did not do anything for me either, physio excercises, fitted insoles. About 3 years ago, all of a sudden it just eased and more or less disappeared, however in the last few months is back with a vengance. My pain is underneath the feet, very bad in my toes and directly underneath. Some days I get to the corner of the road and just have to stop, the pain is so bad I honestly think I cannot make it home. I am always told off for not wearing lace up shoes, but a decent pair of trainers is expensive and I cannot afford to pay out for them. In the last couple of years I have bought shoes from Marks & Spencer, the ones with the shaped insold for comfort, not very short stubby heels either. They do much the same in BHS. My mother thought I had gone mad to go for a highish heel, but I tell you I have had several different pairs now and they are sooo good to wear. It is nice to feel not like an old frump too.Sketchers are very nice, but wide for my feet, I have not tried a pair of heeled shoes only flat ones which are super but as they are wide fitting it is not a shoe I can wear for hours on end. They are pricey, but if you watch the TV Channels I think it is QI who have special rights and offer great discounts. My mother gave me some money to buy a second hand Vibrapower Disc machine for exercising and it is fabulous. I have to have both my knees replaced but not old enough, the exercises are the same on the Vibrapower as ones for both my knees and Plantar only the machine vibrates at any speed you wish. There are exercises to massage as well, and I am becoming an addict, honestly. I feel great afterwards, I can sit on my chair watching tv and let my feet sit with the vibrations going under them, do the same exercises as normal but with a difference! It has taken over a year to get another pair of insoles fitted by podiatory due to the cuts, I don't know about anyone else but they only fit odd pairs so you cannot wear them all the time as told to do anyway. I had a free foot massage last year with aroma therapy and it was lovely, you cannot do the same for yourself. If you look on Ebay you can find these Vibrapower Discs (not a disc, a round machine with a lid that vibrates they call a disc, about 5 or 6 inches high and 18 inches wide, very heavy) about £99.00 which is a big amount but really the first time something is helping. Perhaps one of the health places have one you could try, it is the best investment honestly. As you need to be fit this can give the chance for an all over exercise, and it truly works from that first few minutes. Shoes need to be bendy almost at the sole or it is hard on your feet I find, so wedges and plastic cheaper ones are rubbish. I think the combination of the machine which is fun as well as helps, and shoes with a moulded soft insole so they fit in to your foot are starting to make a real difference even to my knees as well. The injections have not worked for anyone I know, including my late father, and you can only have so many of them apparently. I have a very high pain threshold so the injections were no problem, but I know many people have found them a nightmare. Good luck, this is a horrid and very painfull thing, and the last thing you need. I do hope you find something to ease your day to day problems.

I really do feel for you. Do you have PF in both feet or just the one? My right foot is the one with PF and even though initially it still hurts to walk after laying or sitting down I found the only everyday shoe that cushions my foot is the ever faithful plimsoll. I bought a cheap pair of thick memory insoles and put these inside both plimsolls and my foot wasn't as painful to walk on. I tried these after realising that my slippers were more or less the only comforable shoe I've got so I tried to replicate the 'feeling'. Of course, at the end of the day my foot hurt like hell as per usual but at least I got to walk almost painfree for longer than usual. As I have said before, I've tried those air soles and it was extremely uncomforable but it may work for you, who knows? I've even sent back those arched insoles that are like a thick gel because they weren't as 'cushy' so I am giving up on insoles altogether.
