Plaster coming off today broken wrist

Hi, Ive had plaster on my arm 6 weeks.. today they take it off.. I can see my thumb and a bit of the top of my hand I can see is all flaky - I am worried that they won't put support on as I feel I still need something.. pain in my hand - stiff fingers.. Any support from some one in a similar position may help - is this just the beginning of a long haul.. I am a full time carer for my husband who had a stroke two years ago.. he is in a wheelchair.. we have help coming in.. its so frustrating its my right hand I dislocated it and fractured.. pulled back in place.. is this why my fingers are so sore or is it the brake.. Hope some one has the same predicament and can give some advice how long it takes to recover.. Hospital been good.. Thanks

Don't worry. I had hand surgery and what they called a soft cast for 2 weeks then a hard cast for 4-6 weeks. When they took off each cast my hand and wrist felt weak. They gave me a removable splint so I could take it off and wash my hand. It was very flaky. The splint worked fine. I started occupational therapy when I got the splint. My surgery was Feb. 4th. Therapy was approx. 4-6 weeks.

    Hope this helps a little.

I will check this email again today to see if I answered your question. Also, fyi I am 68 so healing might have been slower.

Hi thanks for your reply, I have the splint now, I am able to move my fingers and have exercises - but its painful to turn my wrist.. I know It will take time, just hope in time and after physio, ( waiting for an appointment)..it will slowly get better.. I will take the splint off when I sleep. Arnica is helping and lemon and myrtle balm is helping with the dry itchy skin.. I am 71...and never had a broken bone.. Thanks for your input.
