Good morning all, just wondering if anyone else has felt this way ? I am about 12 weeks post op THR and have done pretty well with my recovery ...I am back to work full time , using only a cane for stairs and when my leg gets tired and sore from work, taking way less pain Med's ...it all seems to be going in the right direction but lately feel like I'm not seeing any improvements, thought I would be walking pain free and without the cane by now ...even though I'm Happy and relieved to be able to walk without a limp and back to work I just feel stuck 😢

    Dear Kelly

Its really good news that you are walking without a limp but if as you say your muscles are still getting tired at times such as climbing stairs I just wonder if you need to do more with your exercises....very boring but necessary until we are really back to full strength!!

    Cheers

I agree with Richard, walking without a limp is a fantastic achievement, tiredness will reduce as you build your stamina back up, that takes time.

I'm now 18 months or so post-revision, and able to do just about anything, in fact I'm remodeling part of my garden at the moment.  Heavy work, and I'm having a well-earned day off today.

Keep up the exercises, and things will move in the right direction, but always slower than we imagine they should.

Thanks Richard and Rocketman...i'll get off my pity pot now ha ha! I guess I am just getting a little impatient and YES I do need to do the excercises more. I guess I just thought working 12 hour night shifts was enough but apparently I need to also get back into the gym more, hard to find time with my schedule but I am going to have to make time!!

      Dear Kelly

No need for the gym as you can do the exercises in your home or during work if you want. Rest more and try to relax the muscles by whatever means.  A long hot bath at the end of the day is a good way to set yourself up for a restful night unless you have other plans<BG>

    hi kelly,

that is a dead give-away darling .... on your feet 12 hours a day and feeling tired and sore ????

    and you wonder why ???

You just had major surgery and there is still healing going on ... You did an amazing job !

However, your body might not be able to keep up with you --- so perhaps, if possible, slow down a bit and rest more ...

    big warm hug

Hi kelly, if feel your pain. I'm the same, 10 weeks post op and seem to be at a stand still. I could feel improvement every week at first now it's same old same old and I have more pain in my back and groin than ever. I honestly don't know why. The op has left me with a 1cm leg length difference and I'm wondering if it may be that. Maybe we are expecting too much too soon. Time will tell. Take care and keep me posted. xx

      Dear Cindy

Sorry that you feel at a stand still. It is unlikely that a one cm difference in leg lengths would be causing you a problem.

Your back being out of true may be the reason for the pain, remember that your spinal cord goes up your spine so a back in a balanced state is important. If in doubt and if X rays do not find the answer see a good chiropractor who may be able to quickly get to the bottom of the problem.

      Cheers Richard

Hi Cindy, I am also sorry you are having back and groin pain 🙁, I myself used to have the excruciating back pain for the first couple weeks back to work and since then it has almost completely faded ...my groin is in good shape , the only real pain I have now is nerve and outer thigh pain especially after working ...I've been icing and elevating when I sleep and it helps but it just seems I have traded groin pain and limping for nerve and thigh(incision) pain , traded heat for ice ....anyways I hope and pray that this will get better as time goes on, wishing you the best of luck and hopefully you will be pain free soon as well 😊

Thanks Kelly, it's not good to know people are in pain but it does help knowing you're not the only one and nothing is very wrong. I guess we just have to be patient. I have also just stopped using the toilet seat raiser and wondering if that hasn't helped. I had forgotten how low loos can be. Maybe I should start using it again. No one seems to tell you how long you are supposed to use it for.

Hope things start to get better for you too. I'm sure we will get there in the end. Take care xx
