Sorry to hijack your thread but i noticed people are talking re scar tissue breaking up etc. I have a plate and 7 screws in the Fibula and a screw in the tibia ( bottom broke up and it's healed crooked).

Early on I had swelling and aching pain but at about the 6 month mark I stood up and if felt like something broke / tore above the tibia. Sharp acute pain. Ever since I have to carefully load the foot before I stand ( chiro advice) and walk carefully to avoid stabbing pain.

I speed windsurf and initially I had no real issues with the ankle affecting my sailing in flatwater. Since this I have also been reintroducing myself to sailing in chop which is more challenging- I notice stabbing pain after sailing. It doesn't like loading the fin.

Generally it seems to be improving I managed to do 80 kms flatwaters sailing and I've walked 8 kms no hassles but I  still have the standing etc issue. I'm due to see the specialist on Thursday but it's been settling down ( I think because with all the precautions I've avoided the jabbing pain ). I can feel it's still there like a time bomb though..

It feels like its above the break..Anyone else had similar issues and does it get better? I had also eased off on the chiro exercises as i figured I was doing enough with windsurfing etc but I've restarted those and they definitely help. I'm at the 8month 1 week mark.

When is the last time you've had an xray Sue?

A couple of months ago soon after it started and everything looked the same.

The specialist  may want me to have another Thursday when I see him. I have a late appointment so hopefully there's time. It's in the public system so a lot of waiting..

The Xray shows the ankle has healed really well and the specialist said I can do anything I want ( might put off wave jumping for another 6 months lol's).

He thought the issues I was having with the sharp pain was scar tissue that had sepreated which is the same as what my chiro said. That problem is settling down too.
