Please briefly describe your experience of the pain and progression of Fibromyalgia

Hi all

I am currently experiencing chronic symptoms including severe bi lateral joint/muscle pain and am trying to get a diagnosis. I wonder if I have Fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia, or even menopausal estrogen or hormone imbalance or something else.

I would really appreciate if anyone who has diagnosed FM would tell me how your symptoms started - if it was of a sudden onset, how the pain felt and if it got progressively worse.

I literally woke one morning three months ago with pain in my elbow and left arm and shoulder. It has now moved into both shoulders and my left hip. This pain was like no other pain I had ever experienced. It is a dull ache for most of the day, but with certain movements it is excruciating - a 'flare' of stabbing, burning pain which then subsides.

I wake up with very sore and stiff shoulders, arms and hands.

I have no 'tender points' apart from a sore area on my collar bones.

I have tingling 'cold sunburn' feeling skin on my face and backs of hands.

I am not tired, and feel quite well apart from this terrible constant pain - (if that makes sense!)

The pain has not got 'worse.' It has been very bad from day one.

Thank you for any response.

Lesley

    Hi Lesley. As far as I can remember it started:

    - pain in a once briken soulder blade;

    - lower back;

    - neck with ofter bib nodules;

    - knees pain

    - extreme tiredness;

    - lack of restful sleep;

    -inability to concentrate, etc, etc.

    I had  pain crisis and bursts that took me to the ER a few times.

    Everyone is different...Things got worst as the menopause approached.

    I got my diagnosys from a rheumatologist after 1 year and a half. X

    Hi Lesley,

    My symptoms started with me feeling achey and exhausted all the time which led to depression(and ultimately me dropping out fo college). From there the pain got worse, I started to feel weak and started getting migraines. At first this was bruished off as being caused by my B12 deficiency but finally after about 2 years I started to be treated for fibro

    Started with numb ring and little fingers both hands. Then stabbing pains in buttocks.  Dead upper arm//shoulders. Painful knees. Pains generally jumped around all over the place. Photosensitive skin, burning areas on arms and face. Pixalated vision in one eye. Head sweats. Brain fog. Basically there is not a part which has not been affected at some point. Insomnia, painful hips if trying to lay down. Can't sit for long otherwise if   I get up I seize up completely. Thinking about it I am a wreck! But there are good days too and I manage to hold down a job, do housework in  fashion and walk the dog. Not saying it's easy but manageable - a good sense of humour helps.  Only got the diagnosis few months ago after suffering symptoms since the 80s
