Please explain diagnosis...

6 weeks ago i posted pics on here of my unclear "lesions" that appeared a week after meeting someone new. mixed reviews in this forum as they didnt look like typical sores. 2 days later i saw a walk in clinic doctor who preformed a swab of the lesions. he told me he doesnt think it looks like herpes, but its a 50 50 chance... 2 days later, he calls me and tells me the swab test is negative for herpes. by this time, the sores are completely gone. infact, i had only had them for 3 days total and by day 4 i did not see anything. there was no oozing or crusting - just sort of painful cysts. he then calls me again 2 days after this and tells me my bloodwork came back positive for hsv1. to my understanding, most people carry the hsv1 virus and it can be picked up as early as your childhood. i ask him what this means. and he says "those are most definitely genital herpes based on this test".

i guess I'm just confused because i could have always carried hsv1 for a long time, and my swab came back negative? yet he is telling me he has no doubt in his mind that those were genital herpe lesions based off my bloodwork. can someone clarify for me?

you probably had ghsv before meeting this guy bc it wouldnt have shown up so quickly on a blood test. How long after the sores appear did you do the swab? One should do the swab in the first 48 hours to get the most accurate results

HSV1 is the milder version of herpes and tends to be more related to cold sores than genitals. However i have hsv1 after my partner gave me oral sex with a cold sore but i only ever get the lesions on my genital area and it only happens twice a year. so maybe the reason they were first unsure was because they didnt look as nasty as herpes sores usually do but maybe that was because you only have HSV1 and not HSV2? either way dont let it stress you out. just have safe sex and keep an eye out for any symptoms in future!
