Please help!

About a week ago I felt that one side at the top of my throat is bigger than the other. I started reading around and I am worried about cancer. I had oral thrush a couple of weeks ago and got some antibiotics for it and I felt completely normal. Could it be that the infection came back because I stopped brushing my teeth that well after I got better? Or is it something really ba? I have an appomtment with my regular doctor on Tuesday. I'm a 16 year old male who has never smoked or drinker anything in my entire life. Also my ears are stuffy. I am extremely scared and its controlling all my thoughts. This is going to sound stupid but I think it could be my Adam's apple. Can one side of an Adam's apple be bigger than the other? I forgot to mention that it feels like only the left side of my throat is messed up. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You might want to see your doctor right away and have your thyroid gland checked. It could be a thyroid goiter. Please don't take this matter lightly it can be something serious. Even at age 16. It doesn't sound like a Adam apples issue to me. So please go see your primary care doctor very soon. Talk to your parents about it first. Good luck to you.

    Hi Chris.

It sounds like you have an infection and your glands have come up. It may be something left over from the thrush. Pleasedon,t worry so much. I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think and it certainly won't be because you have not cleaned your teeth pproperly although you should because that can cause other problems. Speak to a pharmacist at your local chemist they have lots of good advice.

    Hi Chris

please don't worry too much, it is unlikely to be throat cancer.  It could be thyroid, but if it is then most lumps in thyroid are not cancerous.

I had a swelling in my neck a couple of years ago, sent for ultrasound scan and it turned out I had nodules in my thyroid and a pesky cyst which kept filling up.  They could not be sure it was benign so I had half my thyroid removed 18months ago.  On testing, the lumps were not cancerous.

The op was not too bad and I exist just the same with half a thyroid gland.

Now they have found sizeable lumps in the other half of thyroid which I've just had ultrasound scanned.  They are not worried and say it doesn't look cancerous.  Apparently loads of people have thyroid lumps, they just don't know it.  Most people just live with them unaware of their existence.

yours may be just swollen glands or any other minor problem.  See your GP and they may want to scan it, but do not worry until there's something to worry about.
