i woke up one morning with vertigo 4 weeks ago.

ever since i have had a constant dizziness/disoriented feeling. i have a headache from the back of my head to around my eyes. i also continue to get vertigo every time i move my head in a certain direction or try to lay down. my neck and shoulders are so tight and stiff they hurt. 😦

also my head/ears have a pressure feeling?

i have been to PCP, ENT, and Physical therapy. they thought it was BPPV but the maneuvers dont always trigger the vertigo and sometimes it does. now they think its a neck muscle...i had a hearing test done and they said my hearing was perfect so they do not thinj its menieres. im doing physical therapy still with dry needling but it only seems to make my symptoms slightly tolerable in the daytime. at night, i continue to get the vertigo when trying to go to bed and have to sleep elevated/sitting up..im really struggling to make it everyday, im housebound and i can barely function. this is no way to live.

does anyone have any similar experiences or just advice?

If you are going to a neurologist you can ask about occipital neuralgia. Look it up. It causes pain from the base of your skull that can go to your eyes

thank you for the reply...wowi just looked into this and it sounds exactly like my symptoms. i was perscribed a muscle relaxer and took my first dose last night. i feel less stiff but still have the knot in my upper shoulder. i hope when i resolve the knot, the nerve pain resolves too. i noticed that i would get a "shocking bite" pain right at the base of my skull when i would lay down and it was cause the vertigo. i just thought that was normal when you get vertigo.

Yep that's what makes it different from normal vertigo!!! Especially head up and down for me!! I hav bn to hell and back to get diagnosis! Certain foods are major triggges!! Where are you in the country?

i thought vertigo caused by certain head movements was considered BPPV. That's what the article posted in this forum says.

"Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), a condition where certain movements of your head set off a spinning sensation"

"The vertigo is usually triggered by a change in head position. For example, getting out of bed and rolling over in bed are two of the most common movements that trigger a short episode of vertigo. Sometimes just looking up triggers an episode of vertigo."

I am in the US. Yeah, its a pain on my right side. lately i have not had my usual "headache" around my eyes but on the right side of the base of my skull hurts. comes and go's. What foods are your triggers?

All my doctors thought i have BPPV as well but, over the course of a month$ the vertigo did not subside even after all the maneuver exercises. they also told me ear fullness and neck pain usually did not come with BPPV. also most patients feel pretty normal when theyre not in triggering positions. i was in a constant headache/dizzy state. 😦

2 years?! oh my, bless your heart. Im so sorry that your have bot found relief for your symptoms.

well. im still not 100% okay, but i do seem to be getting better. Today i was able to ride in the car and run errands without a headache or off feeling hendering me. the off feeling was still there but very slight. I do think i have occipital neuralgia from the muscles in my shoulder and neck being knotted up. I don't have the greatest posture and work on the computer all day. Also, i was in a total loss car accident about 2 years ago. Had bad whiplash and two black eyes ugh. Im starting to think those injuries got flared up recently and are compressing that nerve.

My dr prescribed me a muscle relaxer, and ive been taking excedrin tension for the headaches. However, i have not had a headache since taking the muscle relaxers and my neck feels so much better. so i havent had to take the excedrin or pain pill in 3 days. the better my neck feels, the more the constant dizzy/disoriented feeling goes away. i still have pt and that helps a lot. i would look into cervicogenic vertigo/dizziness and occipital neuralgia.

      hope this helps!
