Hi. My name is Kiersten and I've tried everything so here goes this. I move into college tomorrow and every night for 3 days so far, I've been having these episodes where my chest will feel tight, my stomach gets tight, I have to get a trash can because I think that I'm gonna puke, it feels like I have to use the bathroom, shortness of breath, even my right leg will go numb and feel heavy. I can't get any sleep. I'm only 18 years old. I feel like I should be much happier about going to college but I don't even care or want to anymore. Where as 2 weeks ago I was so excited. I even had to get taken to the hospital by ambulance a few days ago. Someone help, what should I do? I also want to add that these episodes will last hours at a time

I am so sorry you were feeling this way. What you are experiencing is very common when young people go off to college for the first time. it’s a completely new experience and you are away from home. I went through that myself as did several of my friends.

what you can do is try not to look at the big picture. Just take one day at a time. Even take one hour at a time if that helps. Little by little, I guarantee you will feel more and more comfortable. in a matter of a few weeks or so you will feel much better. It’s just an initial change in your life.

also you can make calls to home for reassurance, speak with a school counselor, listen to some relaxing meditations for anxiety that are on YouTube, there’s all sorts of things you can do to feel better.

what I did also was do some journaling to write down my feelings and then I also wrote down things that made me feel better, meeting a new friend, etc.

any new thing we do in life can create a little anxiety. But it’s good for your overall well being to learn how to deal with new things. It’s all going to be OK! Just give it a little time. Take care❤❤❤

I second Jan's reply. One day at a time, looking at the big picture causes anxiety. Very important that you speak to somebody about it, a school counsellor is a great idea.

Good luck and think about it as over-excitement 😃
