Please help, any advice appreciated

like most of us on here I’ve had recurring Bartholins abscesses since September last year. They always burst after days of agony and given antibiotics they settle down and fill up a week or so later.

Finally I had surgery 7 weeks ago to remove the cyst and lots of infected tissue through into my bum cheek. There was no drain put in and it built up and eventually 10days later it burst the stitches and  drained itself. It’s been continually draining and filling up since. My surgeon says it could take 6-8 weeks to heal properly if it’s going to solve the problem and we can’t tell until then. My worry now is that it’s still draining and filling up but the hole it burst and draining through is closing up, how is it going to drain once this happens? I’m due to go on holiday and I’m scared to death as last time I was abroad when an abscess occurred and ended up in hospital on a drip abroad. I’ve been given more antibiotics in case I need them.

It has been suggested that I could have the whole gland removed as a last resort,  im told this is by no means a simple procedure with bleeding etc a risk, has anybody had this operation and has it been an end to this awful, debilitating and miserable problem??

My Dr has also recommended gland removal. I haven't decided yet because I'm wondering the same things. Right now I have a word catheter in place that comes out in about 2 more weeks. I certainly do t want to go through this pain again because I've already had three, but like you I'm afraid that it won't help. Anyone out there with any advice I'd appreciate it too. Also from what I've read on marsupulization I don't think I want that at all.

My heart goes out to you Jessica. I saw my consultant this morning, been up all night in agony last few days. I’m 7 wks post op, no drain but it drains through hole it burst. He said it may take more time and given me more antibiotics. Just got home and typical it’s now burst and draining blood do um hoping for some relief at least.

If I thought like you that removing the gland would end this misery in the long term I’d go for it, always supposing they would do it??  Surely recovery time couldn’t  be any longer than this??

Dr told me that after a few days I'd be up and about,  but the entire healing would take about 6wks. I'm not quite ready to take that step, but if I get another one I will be.
