i was diagnosed with genital herpes on 15th of may. it started with a yeast infection i felt like. The cottage like discharge and the itching. So i used over the counter Canesten ointment for two days. But after the second day, the moment I put in the ointment it started to burn. When I woke up I had leasions on the left side of my vagina and the discarge changed from cottage like to yellow and watery. I went to the docters and she said it was herpes right away but no tests were done. The leasons started to grow in numbers and the pain was unbearable. I started my valaciclovir (valtrex) immediately. 2 times a day 500gr and I got lidocaine crème and a crème to dry out the lesions faster. I couldn’t move for days. It was the worse pain I’ve ever been in. Especially when going to the bathroom. So much that I was afraid to drink anything. I also had this weird tingly sensation on my vulva which would drive me nuts. After about 5 excruciating days the lesions started to heal and the pain was getting less. But I still had to use numbing crème to go to the bathroom. After 2 weeks I called the doctor if it was normal that some of the lesions were not healed yet and she told me that that was normal so I just hoped it would go away. 2 days later on a Friday night when I got home from work and I tried to look with the mirror and saw that I had new lesions ON TOP of the healing ones. I called the hospital due to my doctors being closed on the weekend and a doctor from the hospital prescribed me with 14 days of valaciclovir (valtrex) again two times a day. These lesions weren’t as bad as the ones before and they started to clear up pretty fast and I could even go to the bathroom without numbing crèmes. Now, one whole month later. I am starting to itch like crazy but again more yeast infection like. The cottage like discharge and this time no lesions. I called my doctor and they said that they would give me an oral pil for yeast infection called Fluconazol. So I took that yesterday afternoon. But I’m the evening I started to get that weird thingy sensation again. I looked this morning but still no lesions. It really does feel and look like a yeast infection minus the tingling. Guys.. I really don’t know what to do anymore. I’m so depressed by the fact that I have herpes in the first place. But the constant problems with my vagina are just driving me insane. I feel so ashamed.. can someone pls help? Does anyone recognize this problem. I’m afraid to talk to anyone about this.. I hope I can get some support here.

it is totally normal to feel this way. 1 in 8 people will get hsv. its common. you are a human who caught a common virus. It is not your fault, and it does not make you less of a woman. many people with herpes have successful marriages and dating lives. you do not have to tell everyone you meet that you have herpes, just your sexual partner. and you can continue to have protected sex when you are not having an outbreak. but talk to your doctor about that. for right now I think it is best you work on your mental health.
