Please help! Is leg cramps/pain a symptom of anxiety?

Posted , 5 users are following.

For months now I've been having on and off leg cramps and I've been told time and time again it's down to my anxiety and nothing to worry about.

I'm really not convinced and looking up all these scary medical conditions - eg, PAD.

Has anyone experienced similair?

Thank you!

I've had cramps in the bottom of my feet without a cause and that's with hardly doing any exertion. me personally don't see how that's anxiety but I'm beginning to think when they can't find an explanation everything is blamed on anxiety. Have you had your potassium checked just a thought might be alittle low in that and that can cause leg cramps.

Yes to anxiety. All of us here in this forum are here because we are dealing with it.

The leg cramps and pain are very likely due to a depletion of minerals most specifically Magnesium. When I get those pains and cramps I spray on magnesium spray (topical), rub it in well and in less than one minute all is well.

My mag. level in a recent blood test read normal, but when anxiety spikes it depletes it, so the extra does the job. When I'm calmer and pain is gone my mag. rate in my blood goes back to normal...until the next spike. Sometimes I only need to use it a couple of times a week, and other times a couple of times a day.

You said it yay. I read thru it first. Magnessium and potassium deficency and dehydration an excellent mix to make lef pains. Add apricots, avacadoes and bananas to your diet dialy. That will cover the magnessium and potassium diet aspect even a gatorade in a pinch. Can always use the rub on magnessium like cia said i use the magnessium flakes foot soaks. And drink a lot. Its so hot if you are in the usa. If you still have cramos after a solid five days of this then call your dr.

yep right diet is key.  I know that when I need the magnesium, I am depleted for the moment, even though am eating right. I am very careful on using potassium supplementation from those spikes. I only take one tablet per week, and of course watch what I am eating.

      Love your input.

Use natural foods i wouldnt go near a potassium suppliiment in a million years very dangerous. Just natural foods. Thats something only a doctor would or should give.

Unfortunately not in the USA I am in uk, Scotland!

Thank you so much for your tips, will definitely take them on board. I have been experiencing it since Christmas time - and ever since my anxiety has geared up a notch recently the cramps have got worse.

      Thank you

I agree that potassium is not to be messed with. Doc okayed once a week if I had had a lot of spikes.

I am actually starting on Harvoni for cirrhosis next week. Some things I will be dropping for the duration. Wish me luck biggrin

Why not get checked out for some of the medical conditions

Most have treatments . meanwhile eat healthy and make sure you dont have a dietary deficiency

I suffer from leg cramps at night. I use magnesium spray or also take magnesium supplements. Has helped quite a bit. Also antihistimes can cause leg cramps. You could give it a try. Hope it helps.

some people ge leg craps from lacking vitamins . Ask your dr to do a blood test to check for any vitamin deficiencies.
