Please Help: Lower Abdominal/Gut Infection?
Posted , 4 users are following.
Hi All,
I'll be succinct as possible in hope someone can point me in the right direction without skipping!
Symptoms:
Lower Abdominal Discomfort
Bloating
Loose Stools (not watery)
Lower Back Pain near spine and sometimes faint aches in both sides
Burning in my urethra when starting a wee (in penis)
General tiredness (i know my body well and it feels as if I'm fighting something)
STI Checks all negative including urine, bloods & mycoplasma test (urine)
Blood test for kidney, liver function & bone health - all normal.
This is driving me mad! I've taken Azythromycin & Doxy - so whatever it is was unresponsive to these (might help medical professionals back track what it might be!) - I don't think this is an STI.
Any help GREATLY appreciated.
I drink a lot of water, cut down coffee and have since stopped eating diary.

i have the same symptoms . minus the pain when urinating . i have dull pain in my abdomen , lower back pain , loose stools but not diaarhea . colonoscopy negative, ultra soundnegative , blood and urine negative and i even had an ultrasound of my testicles to be sure. doctor said its Ibs and stressing about my health. i finally accepted that , started eating better and lost 10lbs and my symptoms are almost gone. hope this helps.

Really appreciate your reply, so thank you! I eat a very balanced diet and drink lots of water. I am inclined to think I have some sort of bacterial infection my body can't shift itself, particularly due to the irritation to my urinary tract.

I was also plagued with abdominal pain, back pain, nausea and bowel habit change, particularly constipation but occasionally loose stools/diarrhoea. I was consumed with health anxiety after several doctors couldn't diagnose me for three and a half months and all my tests were negative. Eventually, one of my doctors diagnosed me with IBS after I told him that my symptoms started after six months of non stop stress. Once I got answers, my anxiety stopped and my symptoms calmed down a lot and only reappear when stressed. Staying stress free is key to keeping IBS at bay.

Suggest you consult a registered dietition or nutritionist. It may be the food you are eating. Many accept insurance if referred by a doctor.

Thank you, I am almost certain this isn't dietary but will be sure to track progress having cut out dairy recently.

How long have you had the symptoms? Ask to see a GI specialist. Could be IBS if everything else is negative and your pain moves about. Has IBS been mentioned?Do you experience constipation? Bladder sensitivity is common with IBS and so is bloating.Anxiety can cause gut problems like IBS and makes existing gut problems worse. IBS doesn't show on any scan or test because it is a problem with how the bowel functions and not a problem with its structure.
Accept all your negative test results because the tests you have had are highly accurate. When all tests come back negative, it is common to doubt them and think something has been missed. Regarding the antibiotics, two things are possible: either you have a infection that is resistant to antibiotics or you don't have an infection at all. Has drinking water, cutting down on coffee and avoiding dairy helped? If diet change hasn't worked, you are probably not intolerant to coffee and dairy. Ask for an h pylori stool test to see if that is the cause.

Try a food diary to see if any other foods are causing problems if diary and coffee are not the problem.
