Please help me

Hello, I wonder if you can help me as i think you will be my last resort.

I've suffered chronic lower right abdominal pain for around 12 years. I have had both ovaries removed along with my appendix as doctors thought the pain may stem from these. I'm still in agony on a daily basis which is making my life intolerable.

I'm an emotional wreck most of the time and sleep in ten minute cycles when the pain is severe. I get pain daily and have to take cocodomol prescribed by my GP just to get me to work in a morning, I'm also meant to take HRT due to my ovaries been removed for brittle bones but I'm reluctant to keep feeding my body pills when I'm still in such severe pain. I've recently been back to a specialist who now says my pain is probably dysfunctional bowel disorder and my lining of my bowel is a little thin causing this awful pain.I am in extreme pain if I am waiting for Bowel movement, which gets increasingly worse after bowel movement, I don't want to eat, as I know I will be in pain leading up to a bowel movement and for days after movement. For example I had movement on Wednesday and Thursday and I have been in agony ever since. I feel I can't go on and my quality of life is not worth living. Some days I can tolerate the pain but most days I get myself in such a state I want to end it all.

Is there anything you can do to help me please? Or five any advice as every time I seem to go to the doctors they come across as though there thinking "oh here she is again" I feel I'm a burden but how can they leave me in this much pain

Yours hopefully

Nicky mcphee

I want you to know your not alone here, it is one of the worse illnesses you can have I have suffered most of my life with it, tried everything, it works for a while then back to square one, I have just going through a bad flare up, but I think it is stress at the moment, I read on one of the reviews that Saguna Silcol Gel is working for one lady, I am going to try this tomorrow will let you know how it goes, easier said than done but try to relax , the gp's have no idea what we are going through I havn't found one in my practise that understands ,take care.

    Hi Nicky,

I totally agree with Rosie, you are definitely not alone here! The good news is that with functional digestive disorders, there is hope for getting better, even if you've suffered like this for years, but most conventionally trained GPs and gastroenterologists don't have the answers b/c we are not taught anything about these functional disorders in medical school and the very big mindbody component to them, which is why there are no good drugs to treat them, despite study after study trying every new drug invented for IBS and similar functional digestive disorders.

Because the brain-gut-immune axis, or the 'brain-belly connection' holds a major key to getting better, starting a simple mindbody practice each day to help start reprogramming this axis will be a big help, and give you hope again!wink

If you've never meditated before, sometimes it's easiest to start with a breathing technique, but in a text post it's easier to explain this one, so give this one a try firstsmile

You can start with a really simple one called the Benson Technique:

Find a quiet spot, sit comfortably and pick a word: if you are not religious or don't already meditate, you can use the word 'one.' If you have a short prayer or meditation phrase you can use this toowink

Ok, so breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, making your exhale LONGER than your inhale. On the exhale, repeat your word over in your head. Sit comfortably and do this for at least 10 minutes each day. This simple technique will help you to turn on your Relaxation Response and start to help soothe your gut via the brain belly connection that is so important but often overlooked in IBS.

Hope this helps you and there is hope for healing!

DrDan IHi sounds very interesting, I think it's a case of try to take your mind of it, I went on a flight in march, suffered few days befor the morning we were flying was really poorly, had a wine on plane relaxed & thank God had a pain free week, I know this is a real illness, but, when I'm stressed it is ten times worse ( becoming an alcholic for stress, only joking ) so yes I think meditating would help. It certainly is my next step thanks hope Nicky tries this.

Thanks Rosiesmile And it's important to know that stress is not just connected in a vague way to IBS but can actually cause IBS to start--it's the root cause in most people! We all have stress and we can't remove it from life, but we can stop it from wreaking havoc on our nervous and immune systems causing IBS and other illnesses to start and keep goingsmile

Nicky, I find that this condition improves greatly with the use of Hypnotherapy and meditation practices. You might like to look at some work done by Dr. Peter Whorwell from Wythenshaw hospital in Manchester. He was the first Gastroenterologist to run a pilot project on the use of hypnotherapy with IBS... his results and findings were enlightening and he has had a funded Hypnotherapy program for all IBS patients ever since. Hypnotherapy is now considered one of the best ways of helping to eliminate or greatly reduce the symptoms. As a hypnotherapist myself who specialises in treating IBS my clients are living proof you can take back control of your body.
