I have drunk on and off since i was 12 (am now 28) im really struggling with my alcohol adiction i am currently under an alcohol team who are brilliant but i cant be 100% truthful with them to the extent of my drinking. You may ask why and is it coz i dont want the help but that is far from the truth the truth is im crying out for help but i have 2 children who are already under a child protection plan and we have a social worker visit fortnightly im scared if they were to find out the extent of how much alcohol i consume they would take my kids away or worse make them live with their dad. I have only just managed to escape the violent relationship i was in for nearly 10 yrs and i cant risk him finding out about my drinking. He has threatened me and also said if he finds out im drinking he will take me back to court to try n get residency.

Im just so scared and dont know where to turn or who to talk to. I hate the fact i have to drink up to 10 cans a day not because i want to but because i cant stop.

Google 'The Sinclair Method' and have a read about it Anna. It's really worth considering.

This drink problem is NOT your fault, don't let anybody convince you that it is. You have a biological difference which makes your body react to alcohol differently than most people. The sooner the world wakes up to that and starts treating people with alcohol problems with medical methods, the better.

While it is not your fault that you have the problem, it IS your responsibility to find a way to overcome it. You CAN do that. Once you do, your vicious ex will have absolutely no power over you and nor will Social Services.

    Good luck!

    I agree with paulJTurner,

The issue with addiction is the biochemistry of the brain and the transforming effect of alcohol on the brain.

My suggestion would be to try high dose baclofen which woked brilliantly for me at totally stopping cravings.I am simply not interested in alcohol anymore.  However the latest German study (BACLAD) shows it only works for 68% of people.  I hope it will work for you.

Hi Anna, I recently went through a wicked detox due to losing a very lucrative position with a well respected company due to the smell of alcohol on my breath and lack of balance.  I would suggest going to a MEDICALLY monitored detox program, 7-10 days at least.  I was up to 22 plus drinks every night for the past 10 years.  I attacked my wife physically, had false memories of impisonment and finally had to be put in a medically induced coma.  You do NOT want to do this in front of your children as you can be brought up on legal issues and possibly be separated from them for years.  Ignore your d*ckhead ex and leave them withe care of a trusted relative for that week. I am now waiting on a bed at a local rehab but if it doesn't work out I will be going to three AA meetings a day until I find one.  The good thing about AA is they usually have meetings starting at 7AM,meetings at lunchtime and Meetings starting around 4 going through til about 9PM.  Do it for your kids but also do it for yourself.  I hope this helps as I am giving you this advice from a hospital bed.  Remember, alot of people out therelove/care about you...time to start loving yourself.
