Analytic

Value 85

Ref range >60

Comments:

**Egfr calculation from serum creatine value**

**Interpretive Guidelines**

CKD : < 60="" ml/min/1.73="" m2="" kidney="" damage="">< 15 ml/min/1.73 m2

then list of ref ranges for normal results

what do interpretive guidelines mean ?! are those for me bc if so id be in renal failure, right?!

and why does it give a kidney damage measurement. i've never seen this before. please help. i am so scared. i tried researching exactly what it means but couldn't find or maybe just can't exactly understand as my brain is foggy and my mind is clouded with anxiety. also there are 2 asterisks by both egfr calculation and interpretive guidelines

Also with kidney failure do pain medications not work? I am on a strong one and no effect whatsoever.

Heather, the Interpretive Guidelines are just that "Interpretive" - just a guide as to what is normal/abnormal.  And the "kidney damage" again doesn't refer to your it is just a guideline.  In other words if a patients is listed as having a CKD under 60 (<60) that means they have chronic kidney disease but not necessarily at a serious level.  for instance, stage 3 is usually nothing to be too concerned about.  is there anything else printed again that "value 85" because if that is your egfr level, you have little to worry about.

    you should stop worrying - that doesn't do anybody any good. that="" means="" they="" have="" chronic="" kidney="" disease="" but="" not="" necessarily="" at="" a="" serious="" level.=""  for="" instance,="" stage="" 3="" is="" usually="" nothing="" to="" be="" too="" concerned="" about.=""  is="" there="" anything="" else="" printed="" again="" that="" "value="" 85"="" because="" if="" that="" is="" your="" egfr="" level,="" you="" have="" little="" to="" worry="" about.="" you="" should="" stop="" worrying="" -="" that="" doesn't="" do="" anybody="" any="">

I never saw results like this. Very unclear. Hard to interpret. They go by your creatinine level, ,add in your gfr to calculate it. They should have everything separate. I know a lot about the kidney numbers, but yours aren't stated the way ours are. I would call them. If you were in failure, they would have told you. Are you seeing a kidney doctor?

I think u are OK. Don't worry, ask questions. Theses doctors have no compassion. Be your own advocate. Call, ask exactly what kidney stage, if any, you are in.

I have never seen anything like this before either and have had gfr calculated over a dozen times in the past year.

But i have never had my kidney function measured with this method. It's always been done using the mdrd equation not idms formula. No there is no other information. But I will check again. Why would kidney damage level be listed under interpretive guidelines? That is so strange. I dont understand and due to my insurance (I'm assuming) I never get any answers or help. Everyone evades treatment and myself

I have recently saw a nephrologist on Monday due to severe changes in gfr (145 was it's highest, a month later it was 98) using the mdrd formula though.

I also have everything abnormal in my urine n an now having troubling urinating. And SEVERE pain in right kidney.

The nephrologist took me as an emergency patient n war running late for a meeting so no help from him really. He take blood work though and when I called they said nothing serious. And now he is on vacation until the 28th

Heather, The mention of kidney damage on the results is NOT saying that you have kidney damage.  It is a guideline to the doctor that any result for any patient listed as being below 15 (the < symbol stands for "below"wink is a sign of kidney damage.

I assume you are not here in the UK as our Labs interpret the figures differently and are much easier for us to understand.

At the end of the day, it sounds as though you are being very well monitored, and you have been informed that your recent blood tests revealed nothing serious.

However, the latest symptoms you describe such as trouble urinating and severe pain in right kidney area should be reported to your general doctor in case fluid builds up to the extent that a catheter is a possibility.  If you haven't had CT, MRI or ultrasound scans, then that is the next step.

If he said nothing serious, don't worry.   Did they make you another appt.?

    Hi Heather,

Chronic kidney disease is not painful as such - it is possible for one's kidneys can degenerate over years with no pain being felt at any time - that's why you hear stories occasionally of people who suddenly find out one day that their kidney function is down to single digits.

If you are experiencing significant pain in one of your kidneys, could that be a kidney stone?  Seems the most logical explanation to me.

    I hope that helps.
