Please help me understand

Back in March I became ill with a nasty virus, I had to go to the er and they took my blood. My ast is 43 and my alt was 35. To be honest I was a  been a binge drinker for almost 2 years off and on.  I have just recently quit and hoping i haven’t done it too late. Have I done irreversible damage?  Also how come one number is high but the other is normal is that worse?

I think keep up the good work.  My understanding is that when AST is higher than ALT, that is a signal that a signal that there might be (or have been) too much alcohol consumption, but, that said, 42 is hardly an elevated number.  Though I am not a professional, I'm pretty sure that if you had done serious damage to your liver, your numbers would be much, much higher than that, and I know that these numbers can and do go down when alcohol consumption stops.  So good for you in addressing the issue.
