Please help nausea and dizzyness 3 months

Hi this is my first forum post ever. Iam from Canada iam a 24 year old male who before this was in great shape and training for a triathlon. It began 3 months ago i was swimming in the pool doing 1 km times. First day out of the pool i went home and had a flashing aura in both of my eyes. I went to bed and never had any other problems. went back the next time and upon going to bed woke up 2hrs later with severe sweats and dizzyness. Nausea was very bad but never threw up. The dizzyness disappeared that night and the nausea contined on for another day. I went back into the pool a week later with ear plugs as i thought it was caused by the water. Worst mistake of my life. minutes after being in the pool i began to feel not right, and upon going to bed woke up again with severe dizzyness and nausea this went on for several hours. went to hospital and the figured was lab. the next three weeks were hell my neck was sore and has a hard lump just under my right ear. I was continously woken up from sleep with spins, shakes and nausea. the only way i could sleep was with my face down between the coushions on the couch. after almost a month I was able to return to bed but only with a stiff pillow and facing the cieling. Iam now into month 3 and I was getting better I thought until two days ago it came back and I again am woken up in the middle of the night with spins and nausea. I made sure to note that Iam not sleeping on any side Iam sleeping on my back with face looking at ceiling. Even when i try to go back to bed as I start to drift off spins begin again. I have had an mri done for inner ear and brain. It came out clear, I have also seen a ENT who thinks its bppv and said that he thinks the lump in my neck which is the size of your thumb now could possiably be a bone. I dont believe this diagnosis as i have not responded to the hal pike manouver and the dizzyness does not come in intense waves when I move my head. As of right now I have nausea most of the day ( motion sickness feeling all day) fatigue ( have not been doing any training now for 3 months) slight pain in neck same spot swollen lump is ( no pain on lump and it is hard)  and the best way i can describe it is a drunk feeling things move and twist but its not spins. Anyways if someone can relate or help please do. This is the worst thing that has ever happened and people seem to think your crazy. i dont know how to make the dr.s look into it more as they seem to think because of my age and the fact that i can stand on one foot and not fall over that iam ok.

You might have what I have. Vestibular neuritis. I started with severe vertigo. Lasted about an hour. I started vestibular rehab therapy and it's starting to help. Check out the VEDA vestibular disorders association website. That website describes all the different vestibular disorders. Go see an  Otologist. He can order specialized testing.

It could bppv. A person on this site was dizzy for 7 years! After a doctor did the maneuver he felt normal again. I have been dizzy for over three months and I am just now looking into that. So many things can cause dizziness. It's good to have as many things ruled out as possible. Good luck!

Have you done calorics, electronystagmography, pure tone audiometry?

Hi Eleftherio I have not had any other tests done then an MRI. I see an audiologist on Monday but I was never told about what tests he would be doing. My ENT seems set on his diagnosis and berely even spoke to me. when i told him i was experiencing dizzyness waking me up in bed without sleeping on either side of having moved my head he said that was impossible. He did make me an appointment with the audiologist but never said for what test and I have another appointment with him in 2 weeks as a follow up. Now that I have recorded that the dizzyness woke me up without moving my head and my girlfriend has witnessed it aswell I can tell him that it is not impoosible. Is the something that I should be asking for to have the proper tests done or request a certian specalist.

Make sure that you are given a thorough clinical examination, including eye movements.  You will be placed in different positions on the examination bed and your eyes will be examined at the same time.  You also have to do calorics.

If both of these are not done soon by the people you are seeing, then go somewhere else.  If you have a choice, see a neurotologist or an ENT specialist with a special interest in neurotology.

Hi Eleftherio I wanted to see what you thought of my newest developments. The last two days have been the first time I have developed pain in my ear, especially in my right ear. If I put pressure on my neck by turning it to the left and putting resistance with my left hand it causes slight pain and a feeling of fullness in my right ear. I also have noticed if I push up just underneath my right ear it causes strain and a feeling of fullness in my ear, as well as brings on the nausea. I have again devolped alot of popping sensation today aswell as a fluttering sound in my right ear aswell. Is it common for this to develop if it is vestibular neuritis? Also have you heard of this developing 3 months in before? just curious what you think as I will be seeing the ent in a couple weeks, and wanted to know if you thought I should ask my GP to be recommended to a neurotologist. Iam also going to inquire about calorics aswell. Thank You and I look forward to hearing back from your expertise.

Was up again last night with spins and managed to go back to bed. I thought going to bed early would help but it seems I wake up exactly on the 2 hour mark with spins and nausea if iam going to wake up at night. Very distressing and causes shakes throughout body. Throughout the last couple days it has not been the dizziness that has been bad it has been the relentless nauses and ache in my neck. Both ears have a full feeling and yesturday my right ear had a popping sensation which it had at the start of this 2 months ago. I also find that when I drink more water it makes the nausea worse. Has this happened to anyone else and would they know why? I would also like to mention that before this started I was having trouble with my stomach as it bloats and I have been having acid reflux relentlessly. I dont want to sound like iam crazy but could it be connected to why this started. I was tested for lactose and gluten previously and doctor said it was all clear. Before this I was perfect health never had anxiety and barely ever saw the doctor. Please let me know what you all think. I would also like to thank Laurie34 for the comment about Vestibular neuritis as many symptoms follow my experience. The doctors here said if it was a virus or infection it would be gone in 2 weeks to a month so it couldent be that. Upon reading more it is apparent it can last much longer.
