You should definitely call your doctor to let her or him know the pain you're in. When I had my surgery I told them not to put the drain in. Theyou put in gauze and that was just as uncomfortable but was done in 3 days. They said it would fall out.

Speaking as a nurse...you can take up to 600mg ibuprofen 3x/day. You may also take Tylenol 325mg 1 to 2 tabs every 4-6 hours...assuming you have good kidney function and you don't drink alcohol. They each work differently...ibuprofen reduces inflammation and Tylenol tells your brain it's not really pain. As a patient....I had bilateral gland removal in February. The pain was terrible. I also had done what you just had. The benefit of leaving in the balloon is that it is trying to create another opening for the normal fluid to come out...since the other one isn't working. When people don't leave it in...you are basically just draining it and letting it heal... completely... increasing chances for it to re-occur. They sometimes also stitch it open...I had that done too (marsupialization) and it didn't work either. Your pain should start decreasing by day 3...as the inflammation starts going away. I can't believe they didn't give you something stronger for pain! You can do sitz baths too. That will help. A little bit if Epsom salt and warm water. I spent a lot of time sitting on one over the toilet. You can get them at rite aid (if in the states). Hope that info helps! Happy healing!!!!
