Please Help, Penis Glans Pale Color and Other Problems.

Hi everyone,

I made another post in the lichen sclerosus section, but for female, since there isn't one for male. But I thought it might be better to post my conditions here and see if anyone else has similar situation. Especially the discoloration (pale, grey-ish color) of the glans worries me. Please see the attached photos of my glans below.

I currently have symptoms similar to lichen sclerosus (LS or BXO) that are described on websites, and I thought of going to see a doctor, but I feel so anxious and embarrassed because I think I treated my penis very badly both in terms of hygiene and masturbation. I might consider observing my conditions for a month, then go see a doctor if things don’t progress. Below is a description of my case. Apologies if this post gets too long.

I’m 23 years old male(virgin), and after an incident of masturbation about a month ago, I developed a small bruise around the tip of my glans. I didn’t care too much since it was small and usually go away, and I continued to masturbate until it got worse (shown in the attached photo). I searched the web for glans inflammation and found the disease LS/BXO. Upon further search, I’m not certain if my conditions really fit the definition of LS.

Due to sensitive glans, I masturbate with my foreskin over the glans, and I rarely retract my foreskin to wash the glans…which leads to poor hygiene. The yellowish scales on my glans (area towards my body) are just dead skins (probably hardened Smegma) and I can scrape them off when I take shower. But, as you can see in first picture, there is a transparent pale patch near the tip of the glans (to the left side, marked in blue). When I get a full erection, that part does feel tense like something is pulling the skin. This could be scarring due to bruises on the glans that I had a few years ago as I never paid attention. I’m not sure if this discoloration/glans skin scarring is a sign of LS.

Also, near the tip of the foreskin which feels like dented hard scale (second picture marked in red). This could be scar left due to vigorous masturbation (I don’t really recall if I injured that part), but the patch didn’t spread/enlarge for about a year so far.

Other than these signs, I don’t feel pain, sore or burning around the glans when I erect or when I urinate.

Has anyone seen similar situation, especially the transparent pale patch? I don’t have any other visible white spots around my penis. When I urinate, the stream is fine and doesn’t spray, although I dribble a little. I don’t feel I need to urinate often.

I appreciate it very much if anyone with LS, how did you find out about it and what where your early symptoms, and when you observed your symptoms like the white spots, did you spread and grow larger over what period of time?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post. I feel so anxious, and I wish this can go away somehow.

Hi Sam. Yes it could be lichen sclerosus you should have it checked out with your doctor. You should get in to a regular habit of washing you glans every day to stop the build up of smegma if you don't wash it can cause infection and problems with your foreskin.

Thank you for the reply! And yea, I've been pulling my foreskin and washing it every day now. I just made an appointment with a doctor and hopefully he has knowledge regarding this disease, because after reading other posts, it seems it’s not generally known by many.

I just hope my situation is Balanitis or simple inflammation…so far, I don’t have any visible white patches elsewhere. While waiting, I’m also searching Zoon’s Balanitis which is somewhat similar to my condition.

That's good glad to hear you have made an appointment with your doctor hopefully it's just balanitis but if not you have the ball rolling.

      Hi

Just an update. I talked with a GP through video call and sent him some pictures of my condition and he recognized it as Balanitis, or maybe more specifically Zoon’s Balanitis (ZB).

I looked up ZB on the web and it seems it doesn’t have too much complications.

My GP will provide me with some antibiotic topical creams. But the thing is the bottom of my glans is quite pale with dry skin. Can this also just be a sign of fungal infection and not related to LS?

I still have concerns, and I'm just wondering, what are the signs should I be watching for possible LS? How long does it usually take for the affected area to feel itchy or painful?

      Thank you!

Oh and also, does LS always develop white color patches or pale/silvery/greyish skin are also possible signs?

      Thank you.

Hi Sam that's good you've see the doctor they gave you some cream I'd see how it goes over the next few days if it doesn't improve then they will refer you to a dermatologist might be no harm to see one anyway as its not what the GP specialise in. It could zoon's balanitis or if it was LS it would usually be pale coloured sometimes slightly raised dry skin not always itchy it can come and go an can be quite slow progressing.

Sam, I am an LS / BXO sufferer. What you need to do is to get whatever it is you have correctly identified and for this you need to see a Dermatologist.

I see you have had recent contact with a GP, you either need to get a referral to a Dermatologist from the GP or depending on what country you live in, you may be able to go to another service provider and get more immediate contact with a Dermatologist.

In what country do you live ..... ?

Thank you very much for the reply and the suggestions. I currently live in Canada, so I have to first go through a GP's recommendations before anything else. An appointment with a specialist will probably take a sometime. But I will try to get as much professional help as possible to get this issue solved.

      Thanks!

So here in the UK we can go to sexual health services, and we also have GUM Clinics that are based at general hospitals that we can go to - many of the larger providers such as this have dermatologists and urologists as part of a team and at least there more in-depth opinion can be obtained, and in any instances referral to the required specialist can occur without the need to go via a GP.

May be worth checking what services like this are available to you and whether you can access them easily enough, or even attend on a Walk-in basis .......
