Please Help. Right-Hand Side of Face: Tingling/Numb

Posted , 2 users are following.

The condition began around the start of February 2017 and affects the lower right-hand side of my face and jawline area. The skin on the right hand side of my face stings and tingles very intensely. It is very tender and sensitive to any touch. Contact with any materials such as clothing, towels, or even water is painful. =16pt The numbness and tingling in my face is specific to the right-hand side. It involves the mouth area, chin, lower cheek, and jawline. The tingling sensation is very similar to that of a local dental anesthetic in a perpetual state of wearing off. By this I mean there is a constant sense of burning numbness, prickling, and stinging. The actual characteristics of the sensation include ‘squiggle’-like lines of burning. It feels as though I am walking through cobwebs such is the sensation. I can feel touch on my left-side as normal, but it is very difficult to determine any specific sensation on my right side other than pain. If I was shaving with a razor blade, the general contact of the tool/instrument on my face would be very painful, however I would not feel any specific ‘detail’ in the touch, that is to say, I could not tell even if the blade was slicing through the skin. =16pt One G.P. has said that she feels the right side of my face is slightly swollen compared to the left. There is no rash that I can see. I have not been experiencing any notable dental pain. My eye-sight seems as normal. There is a specific point down the nape of my neck/lower skull that when touched seems to generate a referred tingle on the right-side of my face. Similarly, touch to the right upper chest wall and clavicle area of my body generates a referred sensation and tingle and burning on the right-hand side of my face. There is a constant sensation akin to being ‘tickled’ but to an extremely intense and uncomfortable extent. It is a maddening sensation.

I'm having some peripheral nervous system problems but havn't been able to pin down the source yet.  Only help has been Physical Therapist.  He has been able to help with some syptoms including numbness / tingling in face.  He gave me a neak streach for it:

Sit up straight in a chair

Fix one arm in place by locking under armrest or grabbing chair seat

    Tip head oppisite direction

Slowly lean hear back as far as you can until your looking straight up

hold for 30 seconds or so

    repeat for other side

    3x a day

For me this streaches everything out in my neak and upper chest.  Some muscle or vein was irritating a nerve to the lower face or perhaps the nerves were just getting tight from an underlying condition.  Either way this streach helped right away and has continued to keep the facial nerve symptoms down.

Let me knew if it works for you.

      Hello C11227,

I'm just writing to thank you for your reply. It was much appreciated. I will try those exercises. I wonder what's causing this! Did you ever have any radiotheraphy or chemotheraphy or major dental work done on that side of your face?

I hope your symptoms improve. I am really getting very upset about my condition. Please let me if you come across any new ideas or causes. Hopefully we both get better soon!
