Please help, slurred speech which come and goes and lack of coordination and falling over

Hello,

My dad has been struggling with on and off slurring speech, lack of coordination (which is getting worse) he falls over if he gets up too fast or turns too quickly and feel dissy. And his speech is slurred.

Some days his speech can be fine, one day for an hour it will be ok, the next terrible, where you can't understand him, then in the next couple of hour it can go back to normal

Hi sounds like you need to get your dad to a doctor.

We have seen loads of docs and consultants and they only 'think' it might have been a stoke. But they don't know. Still waiting for more test to be done x

insist on tests immediately as sounds like TIA's mini strokes,

Doctors can fob you off, this could be serious, I would call an ambulance then they have to take him to hospital and sort it, good luck. Better safe than sorry.

It sounds like a stroke to me.  Is he on Citaloprom?  Is that a possible side effect?

No not taking that, on tabs but we saw the consultant today and they were all checked and all ok! they still dont know what it is.

they said it might be due to a mini stroke but not sure. Brain scan came back clear

He also has no side effects such as numbness of limbs, no face problems, can move his arms and legs fine too.

    Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear you're going through this. You should definitley get your Dad to see a Doctor (or, require a home visit) - This needs to be addressed!

Let us know  how you get on.

    All the best,

    Zoe

I know this sounds odd but there are some types of migraine, sometimes called 'silent' or 'atypical' migraine which produce stroke like symptoms but are not strokes or even TIA's.  These types of migraine attacks can be devastating and are often as a result of emotional distress although not always.  It cant hurt to ask your doctors if this could be related to the cause.  I have friends in Canada whose mum had similar issues and she was referred to a neuropsychiatrist.

Please please get checked out with a doctor. They will say that the scan results are coming back clear as TIAs DO NOT show up when you go for a scan so they will say everything is fine. I suffer with Hemiplegic migraines which mimic a TIA and last month they put me on aspirina as they suspected a TIA - though they didn't tell me to my face. Please go and see a doctor and mention that you suspect a TIA. You have to be persistent. Good luck and all the best. Hope he gets well soon xxx
