Please help! Son 11 diagnosed with wpw :(

Posted , 3 users are following.

(I have posted this in the WPW forum, but posted here too for a bit more trafficwink )My son has been recently diagnosed with WPW and has been put on a small dose of Atenolol daily (even though he only has racing heart a couple of times a year).

We have recently been to see an electrophysiologic cardiologist and he has said the diagnosis is:

Ventricular Preexcitation with WPW with right posteroseptal accessory pathway.

What does this mean? Is it different to normal WPW? Is it more dangerous?

Will the Atenolol work or will he have to have an ablation?

Any help would be great, thanks sad

This if a forum about SVT, which is not the same as WPW.

If you have serious medical questions they need to be asked of your son's cardiologist.  We are lay people who have a different diagnosis as your son.

It's not the same thing.  It's a different diagnosis.  The abnormal electrical pathways are different.  It's not SVT - he has a septal pathway.

You've asked technical questions that need to be answered by a cardiologist or arrythmia specialist.  It's difficult to conceive that you've been given a diagnosis as well as drug treatment without having those questions addressed.
