Please help - toddler face rash

Hi everyone

I'm trying to get to the bottom of a rash on my 3 year old son's face.

A bit of background info -

He used to suffer from baby eczema, mainly when cutting a tooth. The eczema would mainly be on legs and base of back but his cheeks would also flare up red.

He's nearly always had 'rosy cheeks' and looking back through photos I can see a slight redness under his cheeks as long ago as 2 years when he was 1 year old. This basically has never gone, it just used to flare up when teething and calm down to just a slight rosiness beneath the skin until the next tooth.

People would always comment on his 'rosy cheeks'. I assumed it would clear up once he had all his teeth but he got his last one over 6 months ago and if anything, it seems to flare up more often.

I can't seem to pin down what is flaring it up, I've kept food diaries and tried cutting out dairy altogether but this didn't seem to help. I thought I had cracked it when he had icecream one day and it really flared up, but I think it must have been a coincidence.

Aproderm cream seems to help calm it but no matter how often I apply it, it doesn'tget rid of it.

After speaking to a GP on the phone (due to lockdown) I sent her some photos and she diagnosed eczema and prescribed hydrocortisone but this seemed to make it worse so I stopped.

I'm suspecting sunlight may exacerbate it, but again, its so hard to pin down what it is.

I am debating whether to order an online allergy test but want to make sure I get one from a reputable place if I'm going to pay big bucks - any recommendations??

It doesn't seem to bother him at all - I don't think he has ever mentioned it and I've never noticed him scratching it or anything.

The skin seems slightly flaky when it flares up, but no major texture to it like his other eczema.

Any help/suggestions would be gratefully received!!
