Please help with an advice

Hi everyone! I've been diagnosed with LS about 6 months ago and at the moment i'm feeling very low. I have been discharged by the gynocologist after using 3 different steroid creams starting with the strongest and whilst on the weakest cream my symptoms have returned and also spread on to anal area. I went to see the GP and they prescribed me betnovate. I started using it but now I don't know how safe it is to use as the skin around anal area ir raw and very sore.

I feel like I have not had a proper help from the doctors and I just don't know what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Don't loose heart, I have used betnovate got nearly 3 years now, I use the smallest amount that I can get away with, just a tiny amount twice a week works for me, my doctors have said that the skin inside the vagina is ok and to keep on doing what I have been doing as it's working for me, the only other advice I can give you is to wash your lady bits with dermal lotion mixed with an equal amount of aqueous cream whilst you are having a shower this means you can also take the mixture further back to the anal area which will soothe any soreness. My symptoms of LS are reasonably stable. I don't know if this is of any relevance , but I also wear a bio flow magnetic bracelet all the time ( never take it off). Magnetic therapy can help in all sorts of illnesses. From cancer to artihritis , I believe it is helping me but can't prove it. I suppose you could look up Bio flow on the Internet., and read up on the benefits and see what you think, I will try anything if I think it might help.

In my opinion...you need to get back on Clobetasol. I need to use it all around my anus too. Once everything is better, I use Desitin for a moisture barrier--- especially around my anus. I use Desitin, original PASTE with 40% zinc oxide. I've had LS for years and it is mostly in remission. Most of the time now, when my skin starts to deteriorate, I use Desitin and very rarely have to use Clobetasol. Good Luck and I hope you get some helpful suggestions.

My raw skin usually heals by just keeping everything very dry and using Desitin--- especially around my anus. That is usually the first area of my skin to develop rawness. I can't answer about the safe part--- I only know what I have done. The zinc that is in Desitin is supposed to help your skin. I suppose that is why it is such a popular diaper paste.

Hi Izzy1234 I can know how you feel, I find the best thing is not to use soap, bubble bath or any scented products. Keep the area as dry as possible after urinating etc.Gently dry the area by dabbing try not to wipe as it irritates it more. A very fine dusting of talcum powder also helps to keep it dry. Do not put to much talcum on tho. Hope this helps

    Hi izzy,

I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering with LS. I went to a Dermatologist who has been amazing and knows more about it than a GP.

She advised applying zinc cream Sudocream is the type I got in Australia and applying it to the raw areas to keep moisture away. She also said not to use any soap, sprays etc as this irritates the area

It is such a cycle as the steroid creams thin the skin and therefore it tears easier.

    Wishing you well,

So sorry this seems to be common though. The number one thing I could suggest, that has made all the difference for me, that I learned here... avoid auger. It will help. I didn't even have to read labels. I just got rid of obvious sugar and it made all the difference. Read more of the discussions and you'll learn more than any Dr has told me. We are here for you!

I personally had a bad reaction to the steroids and am not using them but since cutting sugar and using coconut oil on the area regularly have had hopeful relief. I also had extreme itching and take Benadryl at bedtime, when symptom can be worse.

That should be sugar, not auger.

I was 6 when I was diagnosed with LS, and I had the same problem as you! I tried about 5 different creams, but my skin gets irritated easily, so all of them burned. Now I use Hydrocortisone Valerate .2% and it works really well. Don't worry, you will find the right cream eventually.
