I was prescribed Tramadol a year ago after a fall.  Hurt back and shoulder - torn rotator cuff.  I had no problem quitting it at all.  I did exactly that after about two weeks - not because it was possibly addictive, but because it was highly ineffective.  Tylenol worked better to be honest.

Hi chan23331, I have been on tramadol several times and came off them without any side effects, I know that they are opiates but some people need these for pain relief and without them they have no life as they cant function because of the pain ,

I am on a lot of pain relief opiates zomorph slow release morning and night also oxycodon for instant pain relief previously i was on oramorph liquid but as I also have severe asthma i was advised to try oxycodon as its a cleaner drug than oramorph, without these medications and that's only a few, I wouldn't have any quality of life , I know that these are adictive but at least i have some quality of life with them ,

Some people do need painkillers and will possibly be on them the rest of there lives, I also take a lot of steroids which have lots of side effects but without them i wouldn't be able to breath, so i just have to live with the side effects and be alive.

I understand that you may have had a bad experience with tramadol but some people really do need some medication that they are unfortunately going to be come addicted to but caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Sorry if you have had a bad experience with tramadol, I wish you all the best off luck , I do research any new medication that im perscribed by my gp and weight up the benefits and the alternative.

I definitely dont agree with this. My partner has been prescribed tramadol for over a year now along with other painkillers and he is far from addicted and has certainly not turned to other drugs when he has ran out or his prescription has been stopped to see if he still needs them or not. Just because you may have had a bad experience it doesnt mean everyone else will!

I have a history of drug abuse. I was addicted to crack and heroine. got off it 10 yrs ago. I was put on tramadol 50mg up to 6 times a day with severe pain from gallstones. Yes I felt the familiar reactions that heroine gave me but as soon as my gallbladder was removed I stopped taking them without any problems, didn't even think about it and they probably stayed with me a few weeks before giving back the ones I hadn't used to the pharmacy. Everyone is different.
