First day of estrogen patch only and turns out this is one of the worst days I’ve have since this started so I slapped it on.

Having a really hard time with fatigue tonight and feel very down ... praying this patch helps ... only been a few hours but dr said expect results in 2-3 days . S.O.S.

Lori, does your patch include progesterone? I’ve heard that  it can take a while for your body to adjust to hrt. I started progesterone first then about a month later I started the estrogen. Then, about a month later my dr. increased my estrogen from 1 mg to 2 mg and my progesterone from 100 mg to 200 mg.  I believe it was within 2 months after that I was feeling almost ā€œnormal.ā€ 😂 Keep in mind that if you still aren’t feeling much better in a few weeks, please don’ give up, you may need to increase your dosage (especially if your estrogen was really low when you started hrt)

I was on the combo patch both estrogen and progesterone and the progesterone was making me Very Down crying ... just dark dark thoughts.Ā

So changed to estrogen only patch 0.05 mg only tried that for a few days and think it was too strong. Interfering with my sleep making me hyper ... so I cut in half yesterday and actually slept last night feel good today . Ā

So yes it’s about listening to your body and just because dr says this will work and other women say it too.... everybody is different and some women can take anything pills patches cream whilst others are very sensitive to having a foreign body in your system.Ā

You are so right Lori. I was lucky to find  a hrt that works. Some women’s bodies do have a hard time with any prescription. My heart goes out to you because I know how much you’ve done and tried to find some relief. 😍

Ah thanks Moody yes I’m sick of going to Drs and relying on them to make me feel better.Ā

Doing ā€˜ok’ oh the half dose up to now ... it’s only been a few days and I know it takes a while to kick in . I’m not jumping through hoops happy but hopefully it helps with the fatigue etc .Ā

Hi Lori and anyone else that can help 😁

I have a Mirena coil and just started Estrogel 5 weeks ago , went up to 2 pumps a day 2 weeks ago , any ideas when my anxiety and low mood will lift ?

I’m 53 and post menopause but tbh think I’ve had a hard peri to and always suffered from PMS , my hot flushes have gone but I’m always knackered and ready for bed at 8pm , I stay awake till 10 at least but wake very early and can’t get back to sleep, I feel wiped out with the anxiety!

My appetite is slightly better although it’s a small range of food I eat , I try to exercise and also do Mindfulness.

Any idea when my mood might improve would be greatly appreciated

      Thank you

Yes I’m tired all day and in bed early at night . Even after 10 hours sleep it’s not enough . Let me know how you do on your hormones .

I’ve decided I’m starting off slow on 1/2 dose and then will increase .... it’s all a crap shoot . There’s just not enough research and knowledge regarding hormones ... we’ve been left completely in the dark ages and it’s so so sad. This day and age there’s no real cure ? Shameful !

Yes, it’s all so frustrating! Just want to get back to having a life !

The anxiety and low mood are awful, can’t even leave the house some days 😩 any improvements on these moods would be like waking up again and maybe getting some happiness back.

      Thanks for the reply

Me too Matt ! Been sat here completely cuckoo for 4 months with no life whatsoever ... trying to breathe through it and do my best ... it’s been a very hard pill to swallow . No amount of coffee if B vitamins can keep me awake .Ā

Hey we’re still here fighting 💪 some how we and others like us will get our ā€œhappyā€ back , just wish it would hurry up !

Would be nice to just leave the house without anxiety and just do normal stuff like go for s meal or visit a friend.

      Our time will come 🤞

It will Matt! Nothing stays the same that we do know but yes please ! Hurry up a give us our lives back !Ā

Hi Matt, i think it was a gradual improvement starting about a week after i started bhrt. I started progesterone then about a month later the estrogen. I think it was couple of months befire i saw a huge difference.😊

      Hi MoodyNoire

I’m praying it won’t be much longer now , my anxiety and depression is really awful, done days I can’t even leave the house ! Don’t get me wrong I don’t expect a miracle cure but if the HRT just lifts it a bit I can start pushing myself more and help myself but at the moment it’s just miserable.

How long have you been on it Matt? I was on a combo patch 4 weeks and was awful now on estrogen only patch and I feel weird on it .Ā

      Hi Lori

Had Mirena coil in March then started on the Estrogel 5 weeks ago , should have had two pumps but the nausea made me go back down to one but been back on two pumps for 2 weeks now , night sweats have stopped and I think there’s a slight improvement with depression but anxiety is still very bad but I’m told it takes time to help with that, I’m willing to give it more time and maybe ask for some testosterone, it’s supposed to really help.

Started a Diazipam taper 10 days ago so that won’t be helping my anxiety either! I’m doing a very slow taper so hopefully that should help.

      How’s you ?Ā

Well good for you for sticking with it . I just took my patch off .... it’s making me feel weird and I’ll give it a week to see how I feel without it . There’s no info re. Timing etc . We’re just in the dark. Ā I can’t stand feeling this way for months until it ā€˜works’ .Ā

      Hi Lori

I think it takes time for the hormones to get to the right level that’s why I’m giving it more time , I feel a bit weird too but I suppose the brain needs to get used to the hormones again , the ones we are missing, I’m sticking with it in the hope that once my levels are ok then I’ll see an improvement on life.

Antidepressants just haven’t helped me so I have to give the HRT a shot especially with all the latest research showing that it really can help with any and depression, I need to find a solution so I can get a life backĀ

Well I’ve been on them basically 6 weeks and feel no better although it’s helped with the dizziness and a little with the fatigue I’m still in a very low mood and still can’t get out of bed .

I think you have to listen to your body as HRT isn’t for everybody and some women have a bad reaction to the hormones .

I’m so fed up with all this ... I feel pretty good at night after my run and a glass of wine ... but the days are just AWFUL no joy no happiness .Ā

HI what antis have you tired , I also am I'll with the menopause tryed 50cm patch, had to take it off got breast tenderness rotten , and bloating, only on it 2 weeks, mite give the gel a try

      Hi Lori

But if it’s helping your dizziness and a little with fatigue then maybe it’s gonna start to help with low mood in a while , I don’t know cos I’m new to it as well .

Some ladies say you have to tweak or change HRT to find the right one and it can take time .

I always feel a bit better in the evenings too , days are not good , I wake up dreading the day 😩

      Hi SusanĀ

I’ve been on Citalopran, fluoxetine (Prozac) , Sertraline and Mirtazapine, don’t want to try another so I’m sticking with the HRT for a while to give it a good chance , I’m using Mirena coil and Estrogel, will see how it goes .

I ripped it off last night ... could not take it anymore and was only on 2 mg estradiol . My skin looked fabulous on it that really was the only plus . I’m going to leave it off until Friday see how I do and then maybe start on 1.5mg again if I crash as I’m sensitive to meds.,

I may go back to the cream ( estrogen ) at least you can put that on in the morning and it has a chance to wear off throughout the day . It’s all a mystery and so hard to figure out .Ā

      Hi LoriĀ

Yes I’m sensitive to meds too.

Remind me why you started on HRT was it anxiety and depression?Ā

It was back in April I was away and felt sooooo ill. Had to get a taxi back to the hotel felt like somebody had drugged me . I didn’t know what it was until I did some research ... then weeks went by I could not get out of bed boy Ā the fatigue and dizziness . I finally got a prescription for patches and had to sit on the pharmacy floor to pick them up ... could not stand . 4 months later 3 different BHRT and 3 different specialists and still trying to figure out the right balance for me .Ā

The first patch made me cry and very depressed. The 2nd patch was better but still didn’t feel like myself on it ... now back on the cream ( low dose) . It’s been a nightmare especially doing this ALL ALONE .Ā

      God help us !Ā

      Hi Lori

I suffer anxiety and depression but I think the depression was brought on by the anxiety!

I’m having a very low day today can’t even face going for a walk so have been in all day crying on and off , I to don’t know how people can last for years feeling like this , I’ve had some horrible thoughts 😩

I’ll het my estrogen levels checked next week when I have a blood test menopause specialist told me they need to be greater than 300 , she also said that it takes up to 3 months for the HRT to help anxiety and depression but could be sooner I’m coming up to 6 weeks, there are some tiny improvements but not massive yet.

With your anxiety do you feel nauseous and light headed and exhausted all the time ? Maybe that’s the depression with me or the HRT start up , I don’t know.

Hope you’ve had a better day than yesterday

Yes I did the patch for about 6 weeks and now I’m back on the estrogen cream . I too wake up low .. and just don’t feel like myself . I thought the patch was making more down so I’m going to see if my mood changes without it. If not I’ll go back on it 🙄

In the meantime weeks months and hopefully not years go by until we feel well again.

Everyday is like climbing a mountain !

Hope you have a good dr and you can get some relief soon . It’s no life when the person that you were disappears and this new fragile person takes its place . If I don’t get at least 9-10 hours sleep my day is over I can’t do anything except wait all day for bed. It’s horrible.

      Hi Lori

Yes I’m the same I wake up dreading the day and counting the hours down till it’s bed time so I can sleep and escape for a while!

People say HRT takes longer to help with anxiety and depression so hopefully will see some improvements over the coming weeks 🤞 this is no way to live , I don’t even recognise myself anymore, to anxious to go out , to down to be bothered about anything, just want to feel some happiness again.

Such a sad state for some of us to find ourselves in 😩

I’ve just been wiped out today and lay on my bed ! Have done some exercise most days but such a bad sleep last night just couldn’t do anything today, hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better for both of us.

    • Posted

Yes was same for me yesterday ! I was wiped out all day after such a bad sleep and didn’t even workout . I drag myself normally even dizzy and tired I’ll still do it but I just could not .Ā

Last night slept well after taking sleep pills but still can’t get out of bed ..... it’s the same every day I lie here for hours watching tv and to get out of bed have to literally say 1-2-3 get up !Ā

I think it’s partly because we know the day is going to be awful . I could stay in bed ALL day .

      Hi LoriĀ

Are you post menopause? I’m 53 and post , haven’t worked now for 8 months, I worked all my life so now just don’t know what to do with myself, I don’t have friends who don’t work so I’m alone and the days are so long !

Fingers crossed that the HRT will start to give us some energy and a life again.

I’ve heard that woman can also get testosterone prescribed which is supposed to help with energy, do you know anything about that?Ā

I think I am as my period stopped in December and I’m 52 . I had some blood work done 3 years ago and was in menopause but still getting regular periods and had no real symptoms except a few months of hot flashes and missed periods 4 years ago .

I’ve taken the patch off and going to leave it off for a week as I thought it was interrupting my sleep ... maybe it’s not though ? So now I’m just trying the bio cream at a very low dose ..

3 months to wait to see if it works feels like it’s such a long time . I just want to feel like myself again .Ā

My testosterone was at a good level but I still can’t get out of bed and still downĀ

      Hi LoriĀ

Just wondering how your doing? Has your mood lifted at all ? My low mood is a bit better but anxiety still keeping me in my house and stopping me doing general ordinary stuff like just going to the shop ! I know the HRT takes longer to work on depression and anxiety so still keeping my fingers crossed.

I’m reading a mindfulness book and also on the waiting list for CBT which is supposed to be good for anxiety.

Hope your feeling a bit better ?

Do you use the gel ? I use Estrogel and have a Mirena coil.
