Please tell me it's not just me

I've been suffering so bad from memory loss in the last several weeks. Finding words is a real struggle, sometimes I literally can't get the words out, almost like I had a stroke. I keep trying to tell myself it's just the hormones, but I just gave myself a real scare. I was emptying out the dishwasher and I could not for the life of me remember what went on the bottom shelf of my cupboard. My kids had to help me. I am only 45, but my dad had dementia. I am beyond scared that I am in early onset. I had an MRI last August and it came back clear, but I don't know if your brain can change that quickly.

It's definitely not just you. My brain fog gets worse, the closer that I get to menopause. I often have to stop mid-sentence because I have forgotten what I want to say. It just as though someone has stolen my brain. I have to ask my boyfriend, what was I just saying? What were we talking about? The most bizarre thing that has started recently is even forgetting how to swallow; when that happened, I started to get really scared. Just completely bizarre symptoms!

i forgot what my toothbrush looked like. if theres a history of dementia in your family that doesnt mean your are destined to get dementia. Also theres newer research now about the protective aspects of taking HRT near menopause and for a few years after that lower risk of dementia in later years. Talk to your doc about options if youre concerned, bit this thing right now--its menopause hormone brain--temporary but unnerving none the less

Thank you! yes, this is new to me. My Gyno does not believe I'm in peri because I have regular periods and told me to talk to my primary doctor, so I did. She believes it is all peri! Scary none the less!

How are you doing now? I am also obsessively worrying about my memory since having a few blips recently. I am 45 and very hormonal this month, but feeling full of fear and dread that my memory is going. It is reassuring to read about others experiences. I hope you are doing well now.

It comes and goes. I will go for months feeling great. However, the last couple of months have not been great. For example, the other day I was bringing something into my kitchen. I was imagining putting it on my counter, however the picture I had in my head of my counter was that of one we had 5 years ago! It sounds crazy, but this happens all the time about other rooms too. It is very scary.
