Have had most awful day. Started with a migraine. Have constantly felt like it was being choked,  pressure at the top of my chest, I'm short of breath, my oesophagus is on fire, threat and tongue sore, dizzy...all these boiling over into panic at least every half hour. I'm too afraid to take diazepam incase it further affects my breathing. I've been on 150mg 3 weeks now. Have felt like this for a week but at its worst today. Cannot cope with this anymore!!

When I feel like this I take benzos. Diazepam does not help you to calm down? How does it affect your breathing? Maybe it depends on the dose and you are taking too much of it?

When I'm being rational I know that the diazepam do not affect my breathing but when I've heightened anxiety about not being able to breathe I find it difficult to convince myself that the diazepam won't hurt me. It's the same with meds I should  take to ease acid reflux...I look at them for hours before finally taking them. Don't know how to get past these phobias.

For me it's opposite- i have convinced myself that only benzos could help me deal with anxiety. I would get a panic attack if i'm farther than 100 meters from benzodiazepines😀. Otherwise I understand your breathing problem... I suffer from astma and have to use the inhalator daily. I was so anxious to use it as there could be side effects if taken together with Sertraline. I did not use it for a month! It's just all in our heads. Hope you get better soon!

For now Gabrielle, I’d back off and go down to 125mg (if you have 25mg tabs).

If you’re otherwise healthy without cardiac or respiratory issues, the Valium will be fine.  Book to see your GP this week.

Sorry to hear about your symptoms. Sounds like the dose is too high. Do you sleep ok?

Make sure you eat well and try to get your sleep. I think you should discuss your dose with the Dr. Personally I think you should challenge the Dr if they say just wait and see. I felt like a zombie on Sertraline and I am now off it suffering awful withdrawal symptoms similar to yours.

These last couple of weeks it has taken me hours to get to sleep. Once I'm asleep though I sleep soundly for at least 6 hours. I rang my gp a few days ago and told him about the migraines. He said most likely they were triggered by tension from perhaps clenching my jaw in my sleep and that I should just take ibuprofen. He didn't seem to think the increased dose has brought about these side effects. I beg to differ though. If I could be convinced they were all harmless side effects and will pass I think I'd feel more settled.

When I was on 150mg Sertraline I had a lot of side effects. I trusted my doctor against my better judgement. It was only when I got down yo 50mg that I felt a bit better. As I’m now off it, my withdrawal symptoms are awful. I think the therapeutic dose seems to be 50mg.

      🙏

I agree !  That is what my pharmacist said !   He said he has a lot of people on just 50mg . I am determined to get down to 50 and staying there ..   if I still feel like crap I am getting off of it !!!

    Gabrielle

I had to decrease my 150mg to 125 mg !    I went to see my regular dr and he told me my dose was way to high !!!    You should not be having these problems!!    My dr told me I was getting way to much seratoin !   I would certainly ask your dr !   I am on day 3 of backing down to 125 . I have the temors ..  bad !!   But other than that I am starting to feel better ..  I did have some crazy bizarre dreams last night 😩..

I agree with Debbie and her Doctor.

It depends on your situation though, so Gabrielle if you’re being treated for anxiety alone and not combined Depressed mood and anxiety or Major Depression on its own, you may need less of a serotonin boost  therefore a lower dose of sertraline.

Hi Tammy. I'm being treated for GAD and agoraphobia, though have felt quite teary these past few days but I think that's because I've felt so bad physically and it scared me.

Aw it’s so hard.  I am being treated for anxiety too and also dipped a bit into depressive symptoms.  I feel much better at 75mg than I was at 100mg.  I may even go to 50mg.  The lowest dose to manage the symptoms is best.

Stay strong and be very truthful with your Doctor.  You’ll get there!

    Hi Gabrieiie

I think taking a Diadpsm 5mg will help you relax and sleep. I could not  take Sertraline with out it in the night. I’ve  only been taking it for  five days and feel very anxious so I know how you feel. Disapam  will help it did for me.

Hope yoh feel better soon, sending love and prays. Also I for got to mention I’ve tooken  a few  different antidepressants before and Diazepam as all ways helped.

    Hope that helped you.
