If i'd known at the time i'd have had his cholesterol checked in the hospital because if it goes too low it can cause a bleed on the brain[his cholesterol level was 5.5 when put on them again]..statins destroy COQ10 which is important for the cells especially in the brain..in two countries japan and canada its considered malpractice if patients arent given coq10 when on statins. Its an evil drug and should be banned anyway...

On the bumf my doctor gave me following my most recent diabetes monitoring tests, it sets the target levels for cholesterol as less than 3.0 for LDL, HDL more than 1.0, and total cholesterol less than 5.0. I don't pretend to fully understand these numbers, but they appear to have been set by the NHS as targets to aim for. I hope this helps a bit. Maybe you'd better ask your own doctor, as this might not apply in your case.
Taking Simvastatin, or any statin, doesn't make strokes impossible, it just attempts to reduce the likelihood by reducing the lipids (fat) circulating in blood, and thereby reduce the furring up of blood vessels. Strokes can still happen both from that and other causes.
As I've said elsewhere, I think Simvastatin has either given me depression or made me vulnerable to it, and my doctor, as soon as he diagnosed depression, changed Simvastatin for Atorvastatin. There are a lot of people around who have had various side effects from Simvastatin, some very serious, but as they can take various forms they are not always easy to spot. If you suspect you are suffering side effects, tell your doctor rather than let it get worse. I let it go too long and paid the price.

If someone's LDL is 6.8 this is high but if they're total cholesterol is 3.4 then it's fine, in fact very good.
It simple means that they have a high ratio of HDL good cholesterol which knocks the LDL figure out the park.
I don't believe cholesterol is in anyway bad no matter what the numbers, months of research have certainly opened my eyes to the ' great cholesterol con' .
The only good that comes from a cholesterol check is the Triglceride figure, if high then it needs to be brought down, by diet not statins.
I won't say I'm an expert on cholesterol readings but having looked into cholesterol benefits and it's necessity for our brain and heart health, infact our overall health, and having been a statin taker I can also say they are the WORST drug on the market and are actually known to cause heart disease and stroke.
One major side effect of statins is muscle weakness and last time I checked the heart was a muscle.
Hope I've answered your question Gerry if not I'm happy to go into more detail if you could provide more info and clarify triglegeride figure etc
